Definitely looks like a team effort, the first shot was a shocker and looks like it hit the ground in front of the lions hind leg and then ricocheted into the lions guts! If i was the PH i would also definitely have begun shooting if the client had placed such a poor shot at a stationery broadside lion lying out in the open and if i had an apprentice he would have been welcome to open up as well. Maybe the hunter was nervous and asked the guys to back him/her up straight away? It is very difficult to judge the situation from any video, especially if you dont know the hunters and their background. It was a great Lion and although it took a bit of shooting it was all over pretty quickly. And no this it is not normal practice for the whole party to open up like these guys did - but i am sure they had good reason for it.

The first shot misses the lion. If the following picture came from the same "hunt", the rifle was a double rifle and the second shot could have been from the same shooter.... and even a "tame" lion when wounded (if this whole thing isn't a media scam), would result in the PH rightfully shooting.

While I realize that there have been some amazingly unsporting lion "hunts" in RSA, exactly why did you use one of 22 appearances here to reference such a disgusting video? There are plenty of videos on www.youtube.com that reflect fair-chase hunts and multiple shots, btw.

Why would anyone want to share the trophy with 2 other people?

What degenerate would consider this a trophy? I would not call walking into one of my pastures and shooting a Holstein, trophy hunting.

its a possibility that they fiddled with the footage captive lions gets fed chuncks of meat and its not hanged in trees and why do you need to bait for a captive lion you will find it quickly.

This could have been a fair chase hunt, although the height of the bait off the ground makes me think there were no hyenas and probably was a released lion, but it is clearly a spliced together video just for the TV show's point of view. It is also possible that they were on the edge of a park or bordering country and the hunter requested immediate back-up shots to prevent a wounded lion from getting away.

You're new here, you should show a little respect. The question was legitimate. A simple answer would suffice and leave a better impression of you. The current impression isn't good.

Thinking about what Steve just said, I went back and viewed this video again. Yes, it has been heavily edited. With the quality of this male lion, perhaps an ethical hunter who surfs on AR will tell us the story, or perhaps someone familiar with the hunt. It might be part of someone's filmed safari, but how did it get scrambled with the other clips? Secondly, I viewed the commments regarding this video and got tired of the thread very quickly. To categorize these comments as profane and sophomoric is an under statement. The opinions are as disturbing as the video, IF it is a canned hunt. I have to wonder what motives are afoot here to post this on a premier hunting website where the world's sportsmen and women gather to share views and information. Guess I'm old fashioned, but I don't like to see hunting reduced to the lowest denominator.
