Myself and 2 others will overnight in Johannesburg enroute to Port Elizebeth and would like to know which handling service is recommended. I sent an email to one my friend recommended Monday and have got no response so I need to move on down the list. I would rather not mention the name without knowing why there was no response, dont want to create any bad vibes! Our flt is scheduled to land in Jburg at 5pm and departing the next morning at 630am. Your advice and guidance is appreciated!

Shoot Anne Burrill at Air2000 an email. She takes care of all of our clients and has yet to let us down for years now. Her email is air2000@global.co.za.

I would recommend Afton House. They had my gun and permit waiting when I walked out and a steak dinner shortly after arriving at Afton.

We did have trouble with our emails not communicating and I had to correspond through my PH. I do however have their US telephone number if you need it.

There usually is a flight to PE around 7:30pm if you do not want to stay overnight. Otherwise, it's a good idea to use a SAPS permit service. That will cost you $90-$150 depending upon who you use, but it's worth it. We were through SAPS in 15 minutes in August.

LDK- That sounds like a good plan but it is not unheard of to have the Trans-oceanic flight run an hour or two late making for a very dicey connection.I would say a minimum of four hours between transfers out of Joberg is what I would require to feel comfortable.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

As a rookie, I thought it was possible. I learned that it makes much more sense to stay overnight than to scramble around trying to find a place to stay in Joburg. SAA was the cause of our delay and comped our roomand car. However, I think a lot of it was due to the great persuasion of our meet and greet guy from gunpermits.com or riflepermits.com

I have used all of the permits businesses over the years. Last July we stayed at Afton House as usual and again used their permits people. All went fine, and we were in and out of SAPS in just a few minutes and off to our accomodations and dinner. Big Grin

eyedoc, I agree. Having ample time between flights is the best insurance. However, at times SAA will have a 7:30pm and 9:30pm flight to PE. I've missed connections before due to arrival time being late, but SAA put us on the later flight. This last flight we had only two hours, but Annelise at Afton connected us with their meet and great folks and we left SAPS in 15 minutes. It's a gamble for sure, but usually not a problem in off season dates. Best always have a pre-arranged back up plan when traveling to foreign destinations. My problems never surfaced until we returned to Atlanta. Talk about a jerk around. Missed our flight due to Customs slow rolling everyone.
Cheers,
David

Thanks everyone, I emailed Anne this morning and she responded almost immediately. We had several email exchanges thoughout the day and are set up to use her services on this trip. I opted for the overnight in Jburg for 2 reasons, 1. we would be rushed to the connecting flight
2. it would be a midnight drive to camp, why not do it in the morning so we can enjoy the scenary!

I will post a report of our experience when we return.

Mark, We plan to book dangerous game in Jan so we will come by and visit. This time Im not going to listen to my food taster Bal! His taste buds, with age, have lost the ability to sense something good!!

Never understood the need to rush once one gets to Africa, wasn't that long plane ride enough for the day.

I found an overnight in JoBerg helps reset the internal clock like a charm and cannot recommend it enough.

+1. In fact I'll do two nights in Joburg next time.
