I enjoyed PHC's book years ago, and have got to experience some of the tall-grass stuff. Tall-Grass usually provides some extra pucker-factor.
Thought that others would likely have some good tall-grass hunting pix also.
Here's one:
PH Dean Kendall and Tracker and Game Scout

We have beaten the grass down for photos.
Thankfully, this was a 375H&H one-shot DRT.

Even old folks can post pictures. If you're gonna point out stupidity, at least post a picture. Smiler

Had to mark a road through the grass:

To recover this tuskless:

Walking on a game trail in the high grass can give you pause.

Great photos and I agree about the tall grass. This old boy was a one shot kill, too. But we didn't know that until we waded in and found him!

But... but... I thought everyone knew the 375 was far too underpowered for a one-shot kill on a buffalo... stir

It's amazing how close one can get to elephants-- unintentionally-- in some of that stuff.(too close to consider taking photos)

2 trackers ahead - looking for path

Miles of that stuff - pic taken standing at the back of a bakkie:

Not much of a death to be seen - but it could be feet away

Always something to be said about long grass - boiling heat - sun beating down from above cooking the moist so at the same time the heat is coming from beneath as well - no wind and silent until... Smiler

This one September 2008; we could hear the buffalo but not see them in this stuff and watch the reeds move around:

Charles, must be the "Stewart Granger" hat. Cool Although, since I don't know Tony or what he looks like, I will reserve judgment on the comparison. Big Grin

Thanks SBT and Sevenxbjt, for the compliments on the photo. But I can't claim any credit.

Nikon F100 35mm B&W. Ah, for the old days. Luis Pedro de Sa e Mello and my lovely wife get the credit for setting it up.

As for the grass, I have never understood "long" as applied to grass. It's tall.

They call it "elephant grass" - and elephants are tall, not long. Big Grin

Here's another one where the grass was even thicker and taller:

He's a television star and famous African hunter! Actually he is the host of Under Wild Skies and an aficionado of classic rifles and cartridges.

Just a comment on the "long" vs "tall" grass debate. We had a PH in Zim that called it adrenalin grass!! Cool

Elephant Grass. Haven't heard that phrase in a long time... RVN
I agree with the semantics, it isn't long until you cut it down and measure it. I am NOT six-foot, two-inches "long".

Rich
longer than I am thick

I had a PH in Zim who spent more time lighting grass with his cigarette lighter that he did lighting cigaretts and he smoked quite a bit. He must be something of a firebug. Or maybe he just has a thing for lighting grass on fire. Smiler

My PH's trackers were cool and remote to me before I shot my buff. He never got to the vlei - as my PH called it - a flood area overgrowth of grass that looked like you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. (We were in Chirisa safari district)It did look almost impenetrable - and the 375 did make sure that he never reached it. The trackers practically kissed me in their congratulations to me. The PH explained that I was the first client of the season -and, that some nine clients had botched shots at a buff in the previous season - so they were almost delirious with joy that I had not made their lives more dangerous. Looking back afterwards, I understood belatedly what Capstick was talking about when he wrote about death in the tall grass. (Oh, yeah, I should emphasize that my woefully underpowered 375 did it all) Smiler
