You know, I dont like all the showboating. It just isnt my style or personality. Just because I dont like it or do it dosnt mean I should condemn someone else. I dont understand "being offended" by it. I also dont understand Kathi deleting the video just to avoid some controversy. When did we get to the point of everyone having a right to not be offended? Everyone always likes to talk ethics when in fact more often than not it is just the way they do it. There is of course absolute right and wrong but I hardly think this qualifies.

I will probably not watch it. The Larry Knowlton I know is a fun loving guy who has been knocked down in life a couple of times and bounces right back up. He can afford to be slightly off the wall.

He is not my client he is my friend.

And you are doing exactly what I would do, sticking up for your Mates, I applaud you for that.

The video is by necessity heavily edited and when anything is taken out of context it can have a whole new meaning.

I did not find it (video) offensive at all, folks celebrate in different ways, they look like a fun bunch of guys to me, I'd hunt with them in a heart beat.

A hunting kill does not have to be followed by extended periods of meditation, soul searching, self assessment and homage to the hunting god Dianna. It's your beastie, you killed it, if you want to do a couple of back flips, run around naked or drag your scrotum over the camp fire coals, go for it.

I think some here need to lighten up. dancing

JOHN I completely agree..... tu2+1000

Too many people on here are wayyyyy to uptight!

I can assure you, that Mr. Knowlton doesn't give two Sh*ts about anyone's opinion on here when he's dropping the hammer on some other incredibly expensive animal to hunt! More power brother, do a backflip for me!!!!!

I would totally do the same.

When I get to where I don't get excited from taking an animal - smile on my face, heart beats faster, shake the hand of the trackers and the PH, maybe give him a pat on the back, it may be time to give it up. Big Grin

Frostbit,
You must have driven right past sandyhunter's post too.

sandyhunter says:
Here it is, for those who missed it the first time:

And here's a video interview of the star, who is clearly living the American dream:

"Knowlton One Shot Kills Part 1." returned better results than my faulty recall.
I am dreading "Part Deux" already.

Thanks, sandyhunter.
Let's watch and see if that Youtube video disappears. Roll Eyes

Not at all mate.

Last year Larry came into the Kafue and on the second day of his safari shot one of the best Lions taken to date. Normally the PH and client have a silly drinking session to celebrate but not so Larry he arranged a party for the staff and held a spontaneous song contest which was a blast. He presented gifts for best vocalist, best drummer, best dressed, best effort etc etc and everyone got a prize. But he did not stop there and dedicated the rest of the week entertaining and interacting with the staff.

Never seen that before?

PS. He was not my client and I just happened to be in camp finishing up a safari that he had given as a gift to his equally delightful secretary. This was her and her husband's first time to Africa and the first time to hunt anything more than the odd white tail. She however celebrated differently and I remember with floods of joyous tears.

I am sure that such outrageous behavior would be frowned upon by the purists on this forum. Wink

I remember a program called "Northern Exposure" based in the arctic Circle - where the spring thaw results in everyone in the village getting bit crazy...or very crazy for a few days.

I guess it must be "spring" season on AR...no real hunting stories or shooting issues to debate or drool over....

except for some Zim hunt - maaaan....3 charges in 2 days and killing hippo & ele at a few feet....

I would still be dancing & screaming in my sleep....

I suggest that all members should post a photo of their craziest hunting prank or fun... and we should all vote on it.

I finally looked at it. I have to say that I expected a lot worse.

The guy has clearly done a lot of hunting. I am guessing that 90%+ is nothing but kill shots. The hog shots aren't hunting. They are pest eradication. The hogs aren't native. They have a growing population and cause a massive amount of damage. You have to kill them any way you can. Shooting them out a truck window is nothing compared to some other methods such as shooting them from a helicopter.

This leaves us with less than 10% of the video in question. He surely does some things that I wouldn't do. What is different with his dancing and flipping than the staff having their celebration after a lion or leopard is taken. Does anyone call that bad behavior? I think not.

As for the ACDC song, it clearly is NOT about hunting. Personally, I love them and have seem them 4 times this last tour. Who cares?

Should he have posted it? Probably not. I think some need to lighten up. He was having a good time. I doubt many can appreciate the stress this guy has been under in his life to make it where he is today.

Personal choice and freedom to do what the hell one wants to do.
Some people like to have a great time and hunt and clebrate HOW THEY WANT TO (personally I not into jumping around to that sort of music Smiler
Some people like to defend their friends/mates/clients and very good luck to them, admirable.
Some people like to have a go at anything\anybody on the internet, wether they know them or not, hey why let a few facts get in the way of a good dig at someone?
Is it me or does anyone else notice, when something is posted on here that may generate a little bit of criticism (not sure if thats right word) after a few posts it becomes a personal attack on someone/something or a way of doing something etc.

Well put larryshores.

Another example of his character and generosity is that sometime ago I was hunting Leopard with one of his favored foremen and during the initial stages of the hunt a big Lion got interested in one of the baits. The foreman explained that he was a very busy man and would never, in the foreseeable future, be able to take the time off to conduct a Lion safari, and as we had a spare tag could an upgrade be an option?

Sure so I got on the sat phone and made a few calls but found there was another client who was now interested in the extra Lion.

Ten minutes later I got a call informing that Larry had just bought this safari for his right hand man.

We shot the brute the following morning and as he does not drink either he displayed his joy with a series of cartwheels and some high fives packed his bags and went back to work.

Another first for me.

Two cents worth:

I'd rather see some one dancing, singing and doing flips than have to watch them immediately pull out a tape measure to see how high in the SCI book it scores and what color the medal will be. popcorn

Check with Aaron but due to the recession his charity this year would probably not exceed a couple of million. I have no figures of what his sons donate?

We do taxidermy for hunter's that he "gives" hunts to. Anyone can give a lot for tax purposes, but Larry gives just for the sake of giving. A very generous man who loves to see other people enjoy themselves.
