Question: How close were you photographing the elephants? | |||

The closest I presonally got was about 3 steps from the car. One bull got his trunk into the other car they had to move backwards to avoid being touched by the trunk. We saw a large herd of elephants that we estimated to be over several hundreds. They stretched for what looked like at least 2 miles. We did not see many buffalo, thougfh, except two small herds, and none had any decent bulls in them. Zebra were literally in the hundreds, though. Outside the park we found many carcasses of mostly wildebeest, which apparently died in the drought. | |||

I did not really see much of Kenya except being in the bush. The camp we were in was run extremely well, and the Masai guides who drove us around were very knowledgeable about the country and its animals and plants. I am preparing more photos to post later on. | |||

Great photos! Loved, loved the elephants. I think I need to go to Amboseli. Where did you stay? How did the kids like the safari? Kenya Wildlife Service is saying that 9,000 zebras and 7,000 wildebeests have died since 2007 because of the drought. KWS is relocating 4,000 zebras and 3,000 wildebeest into Amboseli so you probably saw some of the new zebras. They are bringing them in to feed the predators so they don't eat cattle and goats of the Masaai. Cindy  | |||
