Ladies and Gentlemen,
We took the kids on a photos safari to Kenya, and visited Ambosili National Park.

HarrisSaeed,
Wonderful pictures of the elephant. Be truthful, you were thinking about shot placements on the elephants, weren't you??

HarrisThe youngster with the big daddy has pretty good ivory at this tender age. He will become a big tusker if he doesn't break them.

SaeedI have added a complete report on elephants, the link is in the top post.
I have many more photos, and will add a few more rerports later on.
24 February 2010, 18:05
daleWQuestion: How close were you photographing the elephants?
24 February 2010, 18:22
SaeedThe closest I presonally got was about 3 steps from the car.
One bull got his trunk into the other car they had to move backwards to avoid being touched by the trunk.
We saw a large herd of elephants that we estimated to be over several hundreds. They stretched for what looked like at least 2 miles.
We did not see many buffalo, thougfh, except two small herds, and none had any decent bulls in them.
Zebra were literally in the hundreds, though.
Outside the park we found many carcasses of mostly wildebeest, which apparently died in the drought.

SaeedI did not really see much of Kenya except being in the bush.
The camp we were in was run extremely well, and the Masai guides who drove us around were very knowledgeable about the country and its animals and plants.
I am preparing more photos to post later on.
27 February 2010, 01:11
ddrhookmaybe some day we can meet up in Kenya I will show you some of the gem stone mines just out of Tsavo.

cjwGreat photos! Loved, loved the elephants. I think I need to go to Amboseli. Where did you stay? How did the kids like the safari?
Kenya Wildlife Service is saying that 9,000 zebras and 7,000 wildebeests have died since 2007 because of the drought. KWS is relocating 4,000 zebras and 3,000 wildebeest into Amboseli so you probably saw some of the new zebras. They are bringing them in to feed the predators so they don't eat cattle and goats of the Masaai.
