That was fabulous! Brett DRSS Life Member SCI Life Member NRA Life Member WSF Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick. And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too. May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep. May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip. -Seth Peterson

Good idea to share this with all the "fence sitters" in your contacts list. ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

Sorry, I don't see it that way at all. this guy is anti-hunting through and through. The Botswana Lion closure didn't work out the way they planned like Kenya. He admits it was a disaster. He DOES NOT support ethical sustainable hunting. Jeff

The guy is very well spoken and tells a compelling story. But I agree with Jeff, we just happen to be of a "shared" opinion with him, at this point in time. Heck, we are on the same page as Iran with regards to Iraq right now but we are hardly allies with them. At least he had the ands to speak openly about it in a public forum, whom, by his words is largely anti. Steve Formerly "Nganga"

I think that speech will reach and turn more people than if lets say a person that killed 20 lions made it. JMO

I disagree; I think he does support it - at least for now. The only way hunting can survive is to educate the public. This guy does that, better than most of us here can; after all, he was there giving a speech. The fact that he is anti-hunting (if you read the comments you will see he is accused of being pro hunting - funny how that thing called perspective works) can be to our advantage, because having a guy like Aaron Neilson give that same speech, in that setting, just isn't going to cut it, for obvious reasons. As for him and others who say they just don't understand why we need to put an animal on the wall, well, what makes him think I need his admiration or approval?

Well spoken, and presented by someone seen as credible by the audience. Good stuff.

Steve, Welcome back, hope you're recovering well. Political reference aside, I think hunting is under siege. I believe the speaker, even though he admits he's anti-hunting, gives valid points for the benefit of hunting specifically demonstrating by using the lion in Bots as an example. When I forward something like this to my Sister, who has financial resources far beyond mine and travels in circles that many time have no exposure to hunting, it helps tick her slowly into understanding the reality of hunting as a conservation tool. Frankly if you put Aaron Neilson on that stage and had him read the exact same words after introducing him as someone that has killed 13 Lions (thus an "expert"), I believe a much smaller number of people in that crowd might have been swayed by the logic. My Sister was just up for an extended weekend to walk in the Relay for Life with Joyce. One night sipping some Champagne, she told me she was tasked with talking me out of hunting an Elephant this next year by members of my own family and many of her country club crowd friends. I spent close to 90 minutes on the topic explaining why I wish to hunt Elephant and why it is beneficial to the species in Zim where I intend to hunt. Tick, tick, tick she slowly slide to the side of understanding. You better believe I sent the link to this video to her. I will keep the message of hunting = conservation headed in her direction. It matters because she may well be at a dinner party sometime and become an advocate somewhat like this speaker by saying, "I would never hunt an Elephant or even be present (Joyce feels this way BTW) but I understand it's benefit. Having that message come from a non-hunter carries more weight for other non-hunters than a message from me. Hi Jim We are really in total agreement. What he said (without me watching it again) was "if there were another, better choice, he would love it" Clearly tepid support for conservation through hunting, but I'll take it. All throughout the last few conservation issues on AR, I have taken the tack of changing the metrics of the anti's through a professionally produced positive PR campain funded by both SCI and the NRA. The message needs to reach those in the middle without their minds made up. The nessage can't be aimed at America's Sportsman but America's undecided middle. And thanks for the well wishes. Ankles and Knees, RICE. Rest. Ice. Compression. Elevation. If the tendon on the side of my right ankle isn't better b Friday, gonna go to my sports doc. Steve Formerly "Nganga"

I think the ideal situation would be funded by SCI & NRA but delivered by an entity not associated with hunting. ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

Indeed. And as Steve said above, it has to be directed somewhere other than to hunters and sportsmen. Remember, when the preacher is preaching to the choir, his back is to his congregation. Both SCI and the NRA MUST turn back around and address those who are not fully on board, but are capable of being so.

That's a very well presented video, as are so many of the TED presentations. I think this is an excellent tool for hunter/conservationists as this fellow, who clearly identifies himself as someone who is not in favor of hunting, realizes that hunting plays an important role in the preservation of lion populations. Among other recipients, this should be sent to the people at USFWS to help further their own understanding of the lion situation, not only in Botswana but in all of Africa. This video is great, IMO, to share with all your friends. Nothing better than someone who doesn't support our passion to argue in our favor that it actually helps them achieve greater lion populations. I just posted it to my Facebook page, where it will be seen by many who do not hunt.

As the man said, "KNOWLEDGE BEFORE EMOTIONS!" A pity Leakey and IFAW never worked this out before Kenya was screwed.
