I agree completely. Sure you can shoot a canned lion, and I won't get upset about it, but why in the heck would you want to?

Would these guys shoot a pen raised elephant in an enclosure?

Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

I can't arrange a lion during your layover in JNB as I don't have quite enough time but I'll organize one while you are Namibia. I'll have it trucked to Zambia to await your arrival on the Luangwa. How's that for service?

As Ted Thorn points out below my original message had nothing to do with this thread so I have deleted it.

(Although cable68's message quotes my original message don't respond to my request for a definition & contribute to the hi-jacking of this thread on Proper Planning.)

This has nothing to do with this thread but to help boltshooter....this is a video of a canned lion shoot. You see the fence and the post in the background.

Is that:

A. Hunting a lion that has been imported into an area (outside of his natural birth area)?

B. Hunting a lion that was released into the hunt area just before the arrival of the hunter?

C. Hunting a lion that was pen raised & released for the hunt?

D. All the above or ? ? ?

It all depends on who you ask.

Wow… From what I have read and seen Ivan Carter looks to be an honorable guy and tried to post something he thought was beneficial or useful. Yet again the AR trolls spiral another thread in to a moronic shit storm. No wonder I stopped posting here for a year.

What difference does it make if a thread goes off topic? Usually threads go off topic because they raise secondary issues that are more interesting than the original topic itself.

This thread is a perfect example, how much real interest is their in using a spread sheet to plan a hunt? Personally I would rather walk up to Ivan at SCI and say "_____ is type of hunt I am looking for. Can you provide such a hunt?"

BTW your post pulled us further off topic.

And you have to admit: no thread about proper planning that uses a photo of a canned lion as an example of "success" is going to stay on topic.

I suppose you are correct in some ways Jason, the last thing I would do is use a spread sheet to plan my hunt. A journal/note book works for me. I keep it as part of my hunt experience.

Canned or not that sure was a beautiful lion! I may never have the funds to hunt a lion but I am with most of you. I don't think I could shoot a canned lion.

Every time the canned lion issue comes up all I can think of is the movie "Second hand lions"
That was funny!!

Your right again Jason. Here I am off topic.

Cheers!
Will
