I agree completely. Sure you can shoot a canned lion, and I won't get upset about it, but why in the heck would you want to?

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

What difference does it make if a thread goes off topic? Usually threads go off topic because they raise secondary issues that are more interesting than the original topic itself.
This thread is a perfect example, how much real interest is their in using a spread sheet to plan a hunt? Personally I would rather walk up to Ivan at SCI and say "_____ is type of hunt I am looking for. Can you provide such a hunt?"
BTW your post pulled us further off topic.
And you have to admit: no thread about proper planning that uses a photo of a canned lion as an example of "success" is going to stay on topic.

458LottfanI suppose you are correct in some ways Jason, the last thing I would do is use a spread sheet to plan my hunt. A journal/note book works for me. I keep it as part of my hunt experience.
Canned or not that sure was a beautiful lion! I may never have the funds to hunt a lion but I am with most of you. I don't think I could shoot a canned lion.
Every time the canned lion issue comes up all I can think of is the movie "Second hand lions"
