I found that interesting "Safari Box" a couple weeks ago, but we couldn't really figure out what it was, just that it almost certainly didn't have anything to do with Teddy Roosevelt. In my continuing quest to make ya'll spend money where I don't have anything to gain, I present three horses of a quite different color. Here we have a mirror flanked by two small tusks from Roosevelt's trophy room at Sagamore Hill, believed to be a gift from the Emperor of Ethiopia. The auction estimate of $600-900 seems a bit low. If, like myself, you're too damned ugly to go around looking in mirrors we have a custom drilling presented to Theodore Roosevelt on the 4th of July 1916 by The United Spanish War Veterans, Camp Number Three, Pueblo, Colorado, no maker or calibers noted (a request to the auction house would no doubt elicit that info). The $2,000 to 3,000 estimate is likely half what it will bring. Finally, the one I wouldn't be bringing up if I thought there was any way the estimate of $300-400 would buy it, a set of hippo tusks from his 1909 safari. I have no financial interest in these items or their sale, and merely bring them to ya'lls attention because, hell, who would likely be more interested? Lovely items for sure. Thanks for sharing. Be nice to know more about that drilling's maker since that's where I live. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight

Thanks for sharing. These would be cool items for a large trophy room.

Ridiculously low estimates. Hell, if hadn't been wiped out by the financial collapse a few years ago I'd have bought them all. Damn Wall Street to hell.

They've also got a letter written and signed by George Washington (starting bid $7,500) and one of LBJ's Stetson's (starting bid $5,000). Must be from a Texas estate.

It's a six-day auction, starts Monday, these three will run Tuesday, they also have Wyatt Earp's "Days of the Week" straight razor set (yep, one for each day), some Doc Holliday items, a couple lots I'm going to try to get so won't mention here, and a BUNCH of "prostitute's boxes" in which the soiled doves kept various grooming items and, invariably, a knife and pistol (included in the sale). Anasazi bowls, lots of guns from Revolutionary to almost modern... "If you’re innocent why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”- Donald Trump

I'd be interested in the results, just out of curiosity, but am in no position to bid. May even have to start selling off some of the things I picked up during better days. Anyone interested in a letter penned by FCS himself? ... ... or a collection of six letters from Kipling?

Steve, I'll Post the results on these, and if I get any of the three main lots I'm wanting I'll probably offer them in Classified here before I list them on eBay. "If you’re innocent why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”- Donald Trump

The Green and Yellow ribboned service medal is US Army Spanish American war with what looks like Cavalry swords. I am pretty sure the round tin is an oil can. The "eagle spike" might be for applying oil to tight areas. Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

Thanks for the results, K. I knew those estimates were way low, but I think the Hippo tusks with "from Col. Theodore Roosevelt's ... " was still a great buy. That one's a rarity!

Some of their estimates are pretty unrealistic, although that drilling will likely end up being the big sale of the whole six days. I had my eye on a set of surgical tools that belonged to the senior Medical Officer present at George Custer's First Annual Little Big Horn Ice Cream Social and Soire, they estimated it at $200-300, it brought $2250, his sword they estimated the same, it brought $1600.
