If there are any good folks in the States looking for hard working middle aged chap with impeccable credentials in Wildlife management, Construction and Mechanics then please let me know.

All those who have tentatively booked with me for this season should now seek opportunities elsewhere and any deposits received by Royal Kafue will shortly be reimbursed.

A real pity. Just remember, things are rarely as good as they seem at the time and by the same token they are rarely as bad as they seem at the time. Hopefully this situation can be rectified and you can get back to doing what you know and love. Wish there was something we could do from here.

Just think what a disaster this is for the Zambian guys who are already at the conventions!

They'll have spent all that money for booth space, donations and marketing etc and now have nothing to show for it except a massive loss on their books!

The poor sods must feel absolutely gutted! Confused

We all agree that this is a terrible situation, but the important question to consider at this time is...

What can we, as hunters, do to counter-act this nonsense? Is there something that the hunting community can do to reverse this? Is hunting really so fragile that one minister can completely shut it down all on her own? Can nobody over-rule her?

The people who frequent AR generally are successful people who are problem solvers. Gentlemen, we have a major problem, so instead of feeling low about this, shouldn't we be putting our collective heads together and figuring out a solution to this mess?

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I can only imagine the anxiety that comes with a situation, lack of livelyhood, and lifetime of work stolen from you.

Unfortunately......We American sportsmen may be living in a coming environment like you are facing and just do not know it yet. This is Absolutely Ridiculous. But for YOU, it is REAL......and it is NOW. May God give you direction.

It would seem that hunting may continue on fenced farms and I think two GMA's have extended leases therefore my thread could be construed as misleading. Especially for the fenced game farmers.

For the most free range safari hunting as we know it will cease.

The publicised ban on Lion and Leopard, the closure of concessions and the prevailing negative reaction from the international hunting fraternity will spell doom.

Very Bad News indeed. DLS has a good point,My first thought is "Who Profits" from this decision? Sad to say but there has to be money/graft behind the minister's decision. Is it a matter of a bigger bribe to reverse the decision?

Our thoughts and hopes are with all of the hunting community in Zambia, Andrew. This is not the first time this has happened in Zambia unfortunately. My hopes are it will be resolved for 2014 and you can get on with your professional life...

Very sorry to hear that very bad news. Mad

I saw but one of your paintings - a lion with all the essence of being a big lion oozing out at the onlooker. If you can draw the particular Minister responsible for this fiasco with "Asshole" oozing out - something like Brad's avatar - you may very well get a buyer! But that will not restore the effort that you put into your concessions! Shit! Mad

You have an invite for a guinea fowl hunt for last weekend in May 2013 with some fellows that you may know some of. Wink

Best of luck for your alternative plans. Big Grin

Andrew - sorry to hear this mate.

I feel for you and the other Zambians that have put big effort (financially and physically) into the wildlife industry.

Just hope the poachers don't see this as an opportunity!!!!

Brent,

It is nothing compared to what you chaps have been through.

The tough bit was for the past three years I convinced a community that the model I worked was one that could be duplicated throughout Africa and one that would benefit wildlife. I changed a mindset.

Quicker than you can swipe a credit card this has been unstitched. I cannot afford to invest in exclusive photographic tourism as I do not have anything to offer and certainly nothing better than the rest of the crowd. Nor do I have the investment. Royal Kafue was built and maintained on hunting revenues, the whole concept was to produce a model that was not donor reliant. It was a functional business arrangement between a community and the private sector and one which exampled the importance of wildlife as a sustainable natural resource.

Whoever has motivated this action then they must be answerable to these communities and to the game. They must take over this responsibility.
