FrostbitDSC Convention camping question
Joyce and I are on a mega-road trip in our truck camper. We have never been to the DSC Convention so we plan on timing our travels to put us in Texas early January.
Those of you that have been there before I was wondering.... what is the parking like at the venue? Is it an open lot or a parking building?
The camper is 12 feet tall and thus will not fit in a garage type setting.
An option is for us to choose someplace closely to camp and do a rental car for a couple of days.
Thanks

I've always been told "Everything is bigger in Texas."
So, based on that, why wouldn't your camper fit in a standard garage.???

I looked at the Satellite view of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center and I didn't see open parking lots near it. I presumed it might have the parking garage type set-up and there's no way the ORKA will fit in a standard parking garage.

jdollarJim, there are a number of open pay lots within 2 blocks of the center but they are day parking only. You will have to overnight elsewhere.

Jim,
The answer to that is yes and no. In the day and in the near vicinity to the convention center...yes. But you are on the edge of some not so savory area...to walk in the dark.
I do it...but I usually have a .45 under my vest.
If you come down I-35...there is an RV park near the Hospital in Thackerville, OK and we have an RV plug in at the Hospital too. If freezing though we won’t be able to keep your water-hose from freezing but y’all could shower upstairs at the Hospital. We are just an easy hour and 30 min from the convention center. Y’all could stage there if you were of a mind to...then go in closer.

Thanks for the offer Lane. We likely will stay a bit closer.
Cheers

jdollarFind a large parking lot ( like a Walmart) somewhere near downtown, overnight there and drive to the convention center daily. The day lots are just fine during daylight.

drjJim: I have stayed at many hotels over the years for DSC. The Aloft is within easy, safe walking distance of the Convention Center and their parking lot is open and would accommodate your camper. I think they are booked for Thursday night but open the other nights. Last year I stayed at the Crowne Plaza which is a little farther but still walking distance to the Convention Center. I know that their guest parking must be an open lot because when I checked out my truck was covered with snow. The shuttle also services the Crowne Plaza and if you want to go anywhere after dark the Crowne Plaza has a courtesy car that will take you and pick you up most places downtown (like to eat, etc.). Cabs are also reasonably priced IMHO.

376 steyrYou will have to stay in an RV Park and rent a car or Uber. That is one tall camper and will not fit in the parking garages.

Right! The parking garage is a three level lot at the convention center, and I believe the max height is 8 feet, and is a daily parking lot.
I live only about 20 miles from KBH center and would let you park in my driveway with your camper, but my HOA will not allow it!
All Wal-Marts will allow you to park your camper in their parking lots, and most are open 24 hrs a day, and is a good place to get supplies as well.

HannayI've always parked in the garage, but according to their website:
http://www.dallasconventioncen...getting-here/by-car/they have surface parking, too:
"Our garage and three surface parking lots (Lots C, D, and E) can accommodate almost any vehicle. No online-advance parking, should you have any questions about parking please contact 214-670-4255."

HarryPark in the lots where the exhibitors park their trucks and trailers. You have security in site and can get a ride or walk into exhibit hall.
You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

Treetop is a nice place but is almost always full. You might give them a call and find out if they are full the time you will be here. It is only a few blocks off I-20, and about 15 miles from the convention center. However Harrys suggestion would be best if they have room where the exhibitors park their trucks.

Good luck finding a spot to park the camper. Just don't let any Dallas cabbies try to talk you into a flat rate for any rides. It's a scam.
