POLICE in Rukwa Region are holding a 72 year -old man, Alphonce Neza, alias Mzee Nkula, allegedly for owning government trophies that include giraffe and crocodile skins and elephant tusks worth over 3.4m/-.

The Regional Police Commander, Germanus Mpongoliana said here today that Mr Neza was also being held for owning and operating a workshop for manufacturing homemade guns and bullets.

According to the RPC, the suspects was a long - serving black smith and was recently put on a police wanted list. He said the suspects had gone into hiding recently before he was nabbed at Ifuma Village where upon being searched was found with the said trophies and four homemade guns.

The police also found iron bars allegedly used for manufacturing home made bullets and guns , ten home made bullets , two sisal ropes alleged for trapping giraffe, arrows and bows , four spears , six swords and 32 hooks also alleged for trapping crocodiles.

When interrogated by police, Mzee Neza admitted to have been involved in poaching at the Katavi National Park, but he confessed that due to his advanced age, he was thinking of retiring from active poaching and instead he would concentrate on manufacturing home made fire arms.

He further explained that his uncle had taught him all tricks of manufacturing home made guns and poaching, the RPC said. The RPC said the alleged suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations into the case were complete.

Well, being as he is giving up poaching and going into the gun manufacturing business he will probably qualify for a minority small business loan for non-citizens. He could sell most of his production in south Florida or south New Jersey, which from time to time are the same.
