Saturday March 12, 2011 Local News Mbagala dead lion robbed of claws, tail By KOMANYA THOMAS, 12th March 2011 @ 11:00, UNKNOWN people pulled off the10 claws and chopped off the tail of the lion killed at Mbagala area last Sunday, prompting the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to look for the missing government trophies. The ministry's Acting Permanent Secretary, Mr Felician Kilahama, has asked anyone having the items to return them to a nearby Natural Resources office or police station. Mr Kilahama warned in a statement issued on Friday that it was illegal for a person to possess a government trophy without proper authority. The lion was killed by the police at Kibangulile, in Mbagala area in Dar es Salaam and its carcass was handed over to the ministry only to be established later on that it was without the claws and the tail. Since then, the Ag PS said game rangers had been hunting for another lion, which was reportedly still hiding in the village, but to no avail. “The ministry calls on the people to report to natural resources centres or the police if they spot any wild animal lurking in the area,” said the Ag PS in the statement. Those lions that hide in the villages must be tough to hunt. Is that a Luo village? I hope all lurking animals are reported to the proper authorities. Steve "He wins the most, who honour saves. Just for the record: Mbagala is a densely populated area on the periphery of Dar es Salaam. The odd lion that comes so close is drawn by roaring of the several captive lions in a private zoo not too far away. | |||
