True?

If so...and recognizing that Knowlton won fair and square...he did say "the price was wrong" and I tend to agree. Anyone in favor of a secondary bidding war between Knowlton and the environmentalists with all the money going to rhino conservation?

Looked at the comments and just typical. Someone posted with an opposing view and they attacked him saying who was he to be telling the guy what to do with the permit.

I posted a comment pointing out their hypocrisy and in way challenged them to open their wallet. Wonder how long before my comment gets deleted.

That was me. LOL! Knowlton should obviously be under no pressure to "donate" this permit as the greenies are hoping. If however "the price was wrong" in the original auction, as Knowlton himself noted, and he sees fit to open the bidding again with no profit going to him but all proceeds going to rhino...then so be it. Let the bidding begin!

I really have a problem understanding these people. If Corey "wants" to he should sell them the permit for what ever he wants,1 million ,2 million... then take the money and by a permit again next year. But these groups won't cough up the money, they never do.
Look at some of the greatest wildlife recovery projects, whitetail deer, wild turkeys, elk , antelope. All of it because of hunters and hunting organizations. I have never heard of a recovered species because of " Live trophy hunt, or united against trophy hunting, or peta or HSUS."

They continue to claim that they are in the majority, the people who despise hunting, yet there were what 20 or 30 people protesting and how many people in the hall clapping for the successful bidder? This live trophy hunt page has 560 likes and corey's page has over 14k.

One problem if Corey decides to sell his permit to this Eco terrorists is that it will give them a sense of empowerment. Their tactics are to Bully, Intimidate and Threaten to make their minority opinion seem like it is the majority. It is the M O of most extreme radical groups. Why don't they head over to Africa and try their tactics there on the Namibian Goverment? It would be interesting to see how that was dealt with!

I could go on and on but I know I am preaching to the choir here Big Grin

Five permits available in Namibia this year. Sell this one to the greenies for their maximum willingness to pay, donate a few hundred thousand to rhino conservation, and then buy one or two of the other rhino permits to actually hunt with.

I highly doubt there are any negotiations going on. He's going to hunt it, I sure would.

His Facebook page is a nightmare right now.

I just checked out his facebook page. I must say Corey is a much better man then I. I would not tolerate threats against my life or that of my family like he has. Even when he posted the facts these terrorists refuse to see them. Crazy stuff!!

I don't know any of the parties mentioned here but I think the hunter should sell the rhino tag to the animal rights groups for twice what he paid. Then, buy two tags and kill both!
Just my thoughts.

No. He should definitely not sell the permit for any price. Period.

Contrary to what Kapran says, selling the permit is neither a new and progressive approach, nor is it consistent with the ideals of the trophy hunting industry. It is the same old protectionist approach which history has shown to be a profound failure.

What he should do is to respond with a clear and concise explanation of why sustainable-use has proven to be the only model which has repeatedly and consistently resulted in the restoration of wildlife populations, the empowerment of rural, tribal and indigenous peoples, and the preservation and restoration of ecosystems and ecosystem services.

Me too. He is actually doing a really great job of making the antis show themselves for exactly who they are. Pretty admirable on his part.

Obviously he can (and maybe should) just go hunting. That would be my first inclination if I were in his spot. Still, he did seem to acknowledge that he knew his winning bid at DSC was abnormally low. Given that, I kinda hope we find out if the green activists are willing to pony up. I say Corey Knowlton and the environmentalists each put 1.5 million USD in escrow accounts, get an auctioneer in a hotel room, and start bidding against only one another to see who wants this rhino more. Of course this would be with all money (no matter the outcome) going to rhino conservation. No potential profit for Knowlton if he winds up "selling" the permit. Of course, if he loses the bidding war, Knowlton gets back his original $350K and he would obviously get credit for it against the winning bid if he is victorious. The Greenies would also have to pay a rhino relocation fee on top of the winning bid if they were victorious. This would actually be a pretty decent way to approach the "real" equilibrium price of a rhino and be a kinda neat experiment.

Of course, the cruel reality is that, win or lose, the greenies would STILL complain.

Anyone find it interesting that "Live Trophy" claims to be a non-profit and joined Facebook January 16th?

I'd say fairly opportunistic timing to try and cash in on the anti fervor.

Perhaps someone with a Facebook account should ask them to post a copy of their "non-profit" paperwork for all to see on their page.

LOL! Yes you should.

Here's another thought. Doesn't Namibia have a quote of 5 black rhino this year? If the green groups really cared about this species, why are they focusing on this animal? Why don't they just go in and buy/relocate the remaining quota?

We wish to facilitate the purchase from you, or ask you to donate, the hunting permit for one black rhino that you successfully acquired at the recent auction.
We are prepared to negotiate a price and timeline to completing a purchase, as well as any other aspects related to this issue.

Why didn't they just bid on and buy it in the first place?! cuckoo

The real irony I see is that even if Corey doesn't shoot one of the selected rhinos this year, those same rhinos will be on the chopping block next year.

I watched his spot on CNN with Piers Morgan. What a magnanimous man! I had never seen him before and I was impressed how cool and level headed he was.

I don't have a Facebook account but Corey if you read this keep your chin up, keeping fighting the good fight and don't let the bastards grind you down.

From what I've seen Corey has been an excellent spokesman for hunting. We're lucky someone like he purchased the permit.

Thing is, just how long is this black rhino supposed to live anyway?

It's been stated this particular animal has been raising hell and killing, or maiming other of his species besides being too old to breed.

Time to make a trophy mount of out him imo.
Wish Corey well with this bullshit nonsense.

Its good to see the common threat from the green extremists has united the hunting fraternity behind this hunt.

I thought the anti-canned hunt brigade would have been out in force over this one. I've read some rather radical condemnation of Rhino hunts that have been offered on here. Of course, I'm assuming this Rhino is not free range ?
