I think we ought to petition Saeed to make this it's own discussion area. It could be called, "You Be The Judge, Who Really Screwed Up In The Video"!!!!!!!!!

I recently had the pleasure of spending time with Blake. I found him bright, motivated and hard working. I would gladly hunt with him any time. He also said he would PH for Shootaway anytime. Enough said.

I"ll add some.
Nothing to say, really silly discussion, but it hit nerves with lots of us
Gotta love those never ending arguments, kinda like politics. Everyone butts in and no one resolves anything.
On page 14 yet?

Gorge! What can I say?

We are all deferent and have our own ways and opinions!
People make mistakes in there day to day lives. No one is perfect and I know that you know exactly what happened that day. Not going to mention any part of it. Besides that I should have forced you to use shooting sticks which you insisted not to. I would let it be as there is still an outstanding case to the matter. In that of the true fine from the incident! Not the norm of a ration animal that one got away with. This is not the type of attention one would like to get with there name along side it!

Blake,I dont know what you are speaking of when you say that I know what happened that day.As far as shooting sticks go-I have nothing against using them when I feel that I may find the shot difficult.I do not recall any discussion between us of shooting sticks ever. You can see me using them with you when I shot my impalas in the video. As far as the fine for the animal-you told me that you will not pay the fine and I said that I will pay it and you gave me the cost and it was 3000 if I remember correctly. You told me that the ranger was kind enough to reduce it from 5000.It is the first I heard about any issues with this.
As far as posting the video-I just wanted to show what happened and would not have posted it if Jines would have stopped bugging me.Why did you guys tell everyone about it?
I dont like my name associated with this either but like someone said it happens to the best of hunters.BTW,will you be at the SCI show? If so I will treat a double scotch and we can discuss there whose fault it really was. rotflmo

I ALWAYS use the shooting sticks whenever possible.

The only times I don't is when I have absolutely no choice at all.

I can shoot off hand probably better than a lot of people.

But while hunting, I prefer to use whatever rest I can find, a rock, a tree or even my PH's shoulders.

May be that is why I don't miss much.

My first comment on this thread.
Just watched the first of the vids.

At least half dozen times I saw clearly you covered the PH's back with your rifle barrel.

WHY???
I damned sure would never hunt with you just because of that. Don't matter whether you killed a cow or not to me with that kind of performance.

Anyone else see that??

Saeed.......

In my youth and coming along in such matters, I was extremely fortunate to live close, and be influenced by a true world class rifleman. Former Sniper in Vietnam, SC rifle champion any time he wanted to be, All Army Champion, Camp Perry, and the list goes on. While I could not pick up the long range skills he had attained, I did pick up one, extremely important thing he taught me from the beginning, it goes like this;

"The true mark of any rifleman is that he will always, always find a rest in which to take the shot, whether it is a sitting or prone position, tree, rock, backpack, or artificial rest, one must always be aware of the best choice in rests at any moment when in the field."

When in the field I try always to take advantage of any rest available, I make no claims at being a rifleman, or great shot, but I do always do my best to find that rest, and as stated those shooting sticks have a purpose!

All too often hunters think it less than manly to take a rest, or to do anything other than off hand, rather foolish I would think, and mark of an amateur. And I have seen those same hunters miss, wound, and loose more game than I have fingers to count................ Yet, they continue, and are not capable of learning, I suppose ego gets in the way............

A funny story.

We were shooting guinea fowl with a Ruger 17HMR.

Some of my friends were using the shooting sticks, and they were not doing to well, as the birds never stood still.

Walter was one of those who missed the birds.

Walter to Alan "something wrong with your rifle"

I said "hang on a minute. Let me try a few shots"

I did, and managed to kill a few birds shooting off hand.

Alan "Walter, how come Saeed got some, shooting off hand, and you missed using the shooting sticks?"

Walter "Saeed flinches a lot. And that makes up for your bad rifle scope setting"

Always use the sticks, if possible - IMO

I never leave the truck without making sure the PH or tracker has the sticks, and I never guide a single hunt without them either. Never let your in-experienced client tell you what he's gonna do, or not gonna do. The guide is to be in charge of the hunt, when he starts letting the client run the hunt - he has lost control of the situation.

When hunting elsewhere, I always have sticks or my bi-pod with me. I never rely on the guide to have a "rest" of some kind, especially outside of Africa. And I am always surprised how often the guides that I hunt with elsewhere, have nothing??? I guess they all assume there's a fence-post, tree, or satisfactory rock, exactly in the position needed for a good rest? Roll Eyes

Moral of the story - always bring your own sticks/bi-pod, don't hunt without em, and don't rely on someone else to have em for you. Just my opinion.

Nothing to do with
'camera angle" in that first vid.
Camera was following right behind the hunter so there's no way that rifle wasn't pointed at the ph's back much of the time.

Sticks:
Never seen a set yet, but, always use a rest, that's how I was taught. I've got plans to build a set so I can practice with them as I can see they'd be useful to avoid offhand shooting which I haven't done much of and when I did, made some sorry shots. Though in the match's with the bp rifle I did amazingly well in competition with a dozen others I usually came in within the top three or four, some of those targets are mighty small. That is once I put a white spot front site on!

I don't want to start any arguements on this. Just go watch that first vid again to see how full of it I am.

I have mentioned this before, that some individuals have absolutely no business going hunting.

Here we have the proof.

Over 500 replies.
Over 23,000 views.

And everyone who has participated, except shootayaway, agrees.

Is this some kind of record for us here on AR? animal

We do come across some weird nitwits here!

Remember Carmelo?

He went as far as setting up his own website.

He had his own forum.

With a SPECIAL section where he had several personalities.

So he can glorify himself.

He claimed to have hunted in areas that were not open to hunting.

When questioned he said he had PRESIDENSTIAL permission! rotflmo

I don't know in which country that might have been but I can assure you that in times long gone by, it was possible to attain one in Tanzania, difficult but nonetheless possible through the Director of Wildlife (in person) who was/is a Presidential Appointee.

The last I am familiar with was around 2005+/- in Tsavo/Tsavo West. The hunt was solicited, approved and overseen at the cabinet level. This was told to me by one of the participants.
