One of my favorite animals is the sable antelope, be that the Roosevelt, giant, or any of the four subspecies. Their heavy mane and arching horns can be spectacular. Have a pic from the bush of one you can share? Here's mine from the miombo of eastern Tanzania. It was shot with a .300WM and 200gr Swift A-Frames.

Great animals. Stuntpilot2, the color in your photos is superb. I love the rusty color on the ears against the black.

I think sable are one of the most beautiful animals in Africa. Great trophies! ****************************************************************** R. Lee Ermey: "The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle." ****************************************************************** We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! I took this one in Matetsi 6 (Zimbabawe) a few years back with the same PH with the sable in photo #6 (from Mark) --- the irrepresible Brain van Blerk. Brian had me on 4 or 5 different sable right around 40" but he kept telling me "not big enough". When we saw this one I knew what he meant.....42". DB Bill aka Bill George

The thing I like most about sable is the way they run ..... zero to full speed in about 4 jumps. They can really get "out of Dodge" in a heart-beat. I don't know why but the sable has always seemed to me that I only ever need to shoot just one - they are so damn elegant and tough. DB Bill aka Bill George

That's very cool. I recognize the countryside, but I would never have guessed there was sable there! We never saw hide nor hair of one, but its big country and they probably move around a bit (and we were only there for 10 days after all). Cheers, Canuck

My favorite of all is D. Nelson's from her 2006 hunt. Worn down horns to the max but still beautiful arc. that is a top Roosevelt sable "...Them, they were Giants!" J.A. I always enjoy these threads... you get to check out some really nice trophies and beat your chest a bit while you're at it! My 41" bull taken with Russell Lovemore in Limpopo with a .416 Remington and 400 grain XLCs! Zambia 1984. First four-footed critter brought to bag. Used a borrowed 7mm Remington magnum right-handed bolt rifle. Beast went about 40 yards after the first shot. It's 45 inches and confirmed a new hunter. Best in the New Year, Tim

Canuck, Second animal successfully hunted two days later, and with some drama, was a 40-inch cape buffalo. Since then I've continued a slow apprenticeship towards becoming a hunter... Best in the New Year, Tim
