this was my first time to DSC and obviously my first AR dinner. to quote the Terminator- I'LL BE BACK!. special thanks to Mike(retreever) and Keith(Dulcinea) and their lovely better halves, Cherie and Rena for giving me a ride back to my hotel afterwards. when Mike turned the wrong way down a one way street and drove a half block( remember this is downtown Dallas at 10:00 on Fri. night), i politely suggested he turn around- which he did- making a U turn in the middle of the block. for some reason, the ladies got a bit vocal at that point but no blood was shed and a GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL. I posted on the other DSC thread, but I wanted to say thank to all of our AR friends who made it to Dallas, including the first timers like JDollar. Judge G, thanks for becoming a Life Member and for helping to raise funds for the Dallas Ecological Foundation. Your contributions support an outdoor education curriculum administered by the DEF that currently reaches over 10,000 middle school students per semester. Thanks again, and we look forward to seeing you in January 2013. Richard T. Cheatham

What a great job Ed and Frank and Joyce did in coordinating this dinner! Thanks for dealing with all the 'stuff' you had to work thru. Good job! I got to meet Marty and enjoyed making the acquaintance of SFRanger and his lovely wife. I learned that lee440 thinks the 9,3 X 62 is overated (just kidding, Lee ). I enjoyed seeing everyone and hope I get to make it next year. Antlers Double Rifle Shooters Society Heym 450/400 3"

Clara and I had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the hunting stories from Marty and Antlers. This was our first DSC Convention and we will definitely see ya'll again in 2013. My wife is from Colombia and is new to the sport of hunting. She is always commenting on what wonderful people hunters are. Her first comments when we left was what a nice group of people. Thank you to everyone who set the dinner up and notifying us of an opening so that we could attend. Hope to cross paths with you before then, but if not, see you in Dallas next year.

As always, Pam and I had a great time at the DSC dinner. I am blown away by the generosity of the DSC. We were fortunate enough to sit by Butch (Begno) and got to hear the buffalo charge story first hand and see his bloody and torn pants. Thanks to all of you guys who help and assist putting the dinner together, and the other AR activities as well, it was great to see some of the guys from last year, and great to meet more of you this year! It just gets better each time! My boys enjoyed everything and will return, Mercedes and Momma enjoyed as well and extend thanks to all. What a great group of folks we have at AR! Well I am back home with acess to my computer. Thanks to all that attended Friday nite dinner. Now that I have made nice - well you all know every silver cloud has a black linning. I would like to THANK the 35 ARs that were NO SHOWS for the dinner. I had to turn away a few late comers as I thought we were sold out. Your fellow AR members that did attend helped cover your short fall. A great big thanks to Frank and Joyce for all their help with Fri and Sat nites. I won't say who but someone has stepped forward to take over the Fri dinner next year. It was fun but time to pass on to another AR member the "privilage" of doing the Fri nite thing. Again Thanks to all it was a hoot! Speaking of hoot it was a hoot meeting Hoot Murray and renewing friendships. The sippin wasn't bad Sat nite either. With the early opening of next yr, I guess I will just fly in for Fri and Sat.

OK, the bill was covered and no way of reimbursing the people that took care of things. For the future remember if you made a res please make it. Maybe we shouldn't do buffet in the future, but it is easier than each select from menu. If people who didn't make it you could donate $35 to the Dallas Ecological Foundation.

A huge THANK YOU to Ed, Frank, Joyce, DSC and those behind the scenes that makes our fun and fellowship so successful. Thanks to Saeed for generously giving us a site to share ideas, thoughts and experiences which in turn allows us all access to know each other from across time and distance. The convention was another great experience as was Friday and Saturday nights AR affairs. Good to see our "clan" grow. I hope everyone had safe travel home and your next safari is a great one. Thanks to all the AR members that stopped by our booth to say Hi! It was great to see all of you. After working the booth all day we have to make the 30 mile drive home and take care of the guest that stay with us while working our booth. We don't get to join in on the dinners but in the early days in Judge G's room we were there. Judge...you look lots different without the hair on the lip and you sure travel with some pretty women. It was a pleasure to meet them. It was a good convention for all the vendors I spoke too. Better tomorrows to all! You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

I have been going to SCI Conventions since 1997. This was my first DSC Convention and it was my best! There are not many superlatives to describe how the folks at DSC treat you. I did not see one individual with a name tag scanner or anyone checking your name tag to see if you paid. I have been posting and lurking on AR since 1998 or there about. I was lost during the upgrade to the new server so it shows me being a member since 2001. I have always wondered who the folks were who were "hiding" behind handles. Well I got to meet a helleva lot of them. The dinner was excellent and my thanks go out to Die Ou Jagter and all others whom I do not know, for putting all this together. I would go to the Giraffe Bar on Fridays at 3:00 at SCI and maybe eight or so AR members would show up. Anyway, if you could not attend, you missed out on a damn good dinner and get together. I don't have a dog in the fight, but I agree with Die Ou Jagter and others. If you indicated that you would attend the dinner and did not show up, it would be appropriate for you to send the 35.00 to the DSC Ecological Foundation or put another 40.00 with it and join the Dallas Safari Club. You will get an excellent magazine, a newsletter and some other benefits. The reason it is appropriate is that DSC subsidized some of the dinner, provided us a gathering room and I am told they subsidized some of the costs of the Saturday Night party.

how would you know? ever been to Dallas? who is we? ever been to DCS? Maybe you have to be a Texan to appreciate grilled beef and chicken fajitas, grilled jalapeno sausage, grilled bacon wrapped shrimp and ribs. Steak doesn't have much of anything on a meal like that. IMO this beats steak.... Then again I don't hardly ever leave Texas other than to hunt! BTW Pappasitos has several fantastic steaks if that’s what you fancy. Never had anything that wasn't excellent at their cantinas. Can't say the same for their seafood restaurants though...

I can only say, I think I can make all of you happy some of the time and some of you happy all of the time, but I just can't make all of you happy all of the time. Personally I liked the food but then again I picked it so I should be happy, eh.

Tim Garrett and I were in Pappasitos and looked in at the crowd (could barely see due to glare off drhook's noggin). We were told that there were no seats available so we went where the women wanted to go (Pappadeaux) and were not disappointed with the crawfish etouffe and bisque. Mmmmmm. I like steak a lot, love Mexican food, but adore seafood. Each to their own, I guess. The shame is there were a lot of people who would have gone to the dinner but for the fact the limit was reached on reservations. I say...you reserve, you go or pay.

I missed the Friday night dinner at the last minute for personal reasons, but I didn't realize someone would have to pick up the tab (or that there would even be a tab for someone to pick up). I'll gladly send a $35 check to DEF.

sandyhunter, thank you for your reply. Your thought process (or that there would even be a tab for someone to pick up) this is just what I didn't want to happen. DSC has been good to us the last few years and helped with the Fri evening dinner. I did not know until a few days before the dinner they would help and even then did not know the amount of the assistance they would provide. At the very beginning of this string I stated the dinner would be $35. I hope next year NOBODY but NOBODY thinks DSC is paying for or assisting with the dinner. If and I say if they do fine and good but damn it we are selfsuffent adults and as such should act the same. Now off my soap box. I sent an email to Pappas regarding the charge for 120 vs 85 paid dinners. I was told I should have ask about this at the time (I did) and they said they could have worked out something at the time and ask what they could do to retain our business. I told them I was no longer handling the 2013 dinner so had no say in where it would be held. This info is provided so all understand where the matter stands. Again thanks to all that attended and I truly hope a good time was had by all. Thanks. P S the Sat party isn't free either.
