I shot a bushbuck with my bow last year and cant decide on a pedastal or shoulder mount for the wall. I know a full mount is the proper way to go with this animal but dont have the room or money. Thanks

I think a wall pedestal would be a good compromise. If you've never seen one, ask your taxidermist about it and he should be able to tell you. It is just a pedestal mount that has a flat section so that it can be hung on the wall, but not in the tradtional shoulder mount manner. They look really good and usually only cost about 10-15% more than a normal shoulder mount, but are cheaper than traditional pedestal mounts because there is no base. Hope this helps.

David: I opted to pay the extra $$ for a full mount. Hopefully, I'll be able to post pictures by this Sunday. Regardless, your mount (s) look great! How tall are your ceilings? jorge

Too late jorge, It was already caped and I'm currently sitting on its tanned backskin. I'll definatley go with a full mount in the future if I'm lucky enough to get one again. This guy just happened to show up at a waterhole around noon. My PH told me to shoot and I told him I couldn't afford the $800 trophy fee. Suprisingly he ordered me to shoot it anyway for free. They had never seen one one the ranch before and he said they like to fight with the nyala and wanted him out of there.

Although not a busbuck, here is a couple pics of an antelope I had done as a wall pedestal. I especially liked the wall pedestal because you can see more of the color on the body of the animal. As seen with the antelope, you can see the beginning of the white patch that is on the ribs. In a normal shoulder mount, this white patch would have been cut off. If your bushbuck has some spots or stripes, you might be able to catch more of the coloring with the wall pedestal. I wish I would have had the nyala done as a wall pedestal as well. I hope you can use your imagination and hope this helps!

My ceilings are only about 8ft. The whole room right now has about 34 mounts between wall and pedestal. Have six moring coming that I have room for. Wall pedestal of blue wildebeest, klipspringer and duiker table pedestal like the steenbok pictured below, pedestal mounted waterbuck, pedestal nyala and lioness rug. After that I will some rearranging to do to fit more in. Here are more pictures of the room, not to highjack the thread, but maybe help some people with some ideas for their stuff.

By the way, I sold the pool table to make room.

Well it looks very nice indeed, David. What are the room dimensions? I'm RAPIDLY running out of room ( I'll be out of room by nest week when I pick up my stuff from the freight forwarders either Friday or Monday) so I'm just curious as to the size of your room. Mine is 18X20 with 12' ceilings at the apex only. jorge

My room is 13x22. I have to plan carefully when I have to rearrange as I do not want to bunch everything up together. But when things do get too bunched up, I will probably move it to another room (currently the living room) which is larger, 20x30. I just can not wait til that happens because that means a few more hunting trips.

Here's mine. I shot him in a sneak position, so I had him mounted that way.

Here's my friend's.

Darrell McMicken does my taxidermy, his place is in Cartersville, GA, McMicken Taxidermy. The pedestals are a little less than 3ft I believe.

Bwanna, I think a full body mount lying down would look good as long as his head is held up. That can also save you room in your trophy room.

I'm working on a lying down Bushbuck right now for a client. You made an excellent choice for the pose. It looks great that way. Maybe have him looking back just a bit. I'm doing this one with no base, the guy wants to put it on top of a book case.

Thanks David. I'm having mine done by Charles Watson in Lawrenceville. I was thinking about making my pedestals 30" high for the kudu and gemsbuck. I may go a little bit higher for zebra and hartebeast.

I know Charles, he does good work. He has done a whitetail and hog for in the past.

Bwanna, I can do that for you, give me a few weeks. I did a Mountain Goat a few years ago, lying down, I'll see if I can locate the photo's and post them for you. The Goat looked great lying on the edge of a rock
