Gary did an outstanding job on the photos of the bee catcher with the dragon fly and the butterfly in its mouth. Glad to see more of your outstanding closeups of insect life, especially on the game animals' crotch. Jesus saves, but Moses invests

It was Enriques last hunting day yesterday, and he shot a buffalo. Today is a break for both him and Walter, and Walter starts hunting tomorrow. Roy shot a buffalo this morning, and I shot a bushbuck. We see large herds of buffalo every day, but picking a good bull from them in the bush is not very easy. Saw a leoprad slicking into the grass day before yesterday, and about an hour later saw a very large lion crossing the river about half a mile ahead of us. Alan thinks it is an old male that lives around here - may 6-8 years old, but has not much of a main. We will try to put some bait for him, and see what happens. Tonight Walter is preparing one of his famous BBQs

Hi Saeed. Are you hunting in the same area of the Selous that you have in years past? Just when I start to think I really don't have a strong desire to hunt Africa again, I view your photos and read your comments, and it freshly rekindles the dream all over. Thank you (I think ). Eland intestine filled with eland heart, liver and kidney. Roy's own recipe. This is the same area we have been hunting the past 5 years. Roy shot a buffalo and a hartebeest, and I shot a bushbuck.

. Saeed, Who gets credit for the 3 generation impala in the long grass picture? It is one of the best impala pictures I have ever seen ! Charlie "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"

Basically what we in South Africa used to call a "pofadder" or puffadder. Large intestine with lots of fat. Very rich - no one eats kilos of it .... -- Promise me, when I die, don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told I her I paid for them.

Today is Walter's first hunting day. He shot buffalo and an impala!! I shot two hyenas in the morning, then managed to get stuck in the river later in the morning quite far from camp. We spent about three hours basically getting deeper and deeper in wet river sand. Laurel and Hardy would have been very proud of us. We walked about 23 Ks back to camp, and a few minutes later our truck arrived. Apparently they managed to dig it out!!

So Saeed, will this recent buffalo of Walter's replace the flagship pic of Walter here on AR? Any stories to tell us about it and the unlucky impala? There's got to be more to the story than he just shot a buffalo and an impala on the same day, as incredible as that sounds to all of us!

Had a bit of an exiting day today. We were trying to shoot a hippo for lion bait, but the hippos are very difficult to find by the river as there is not much water. We know some are in forest pools, and went looking for them. On the way, Alan was walking a head, me following and the rest behind me. He disturbed a hornets' nest, and took off as soon as they swarmed around him! I took hid place, and the bloody things latched onto to me, while everyone scattered in every direction! They got me on the back of the neck, and I was in a bit pain for a few minutes, getting less and less painful as time went by. We continued looking for hippos, and found a large pod, but in such an inaccessible place for recovery we gave up - but not before getting some scares of charges from cows with little babies. We then drove to a forest close to the river, and walk along that. We found an old hippo bull - just the ticket for lion bait. But, he would not co-operate, and kept running at breakneck speed - I have no idea how he could do that in such a thick forest. Eventually he decided to stop, and we thought we were going to be at the end of a charge from about 10 yards! I thought we better put a stop to that, and a brain shot dropped him. We spent the rest of the day cutting him up and putting baits for lions. During the cutting process, Roy took a stroll in the forest along the river. He surprised another cantankerous bull, which did not like seeing him, so charged him! He was unarmed, but luckily a handy tree was near so he managed to climb it to escape the hippos. The hippo stopped about his own length from the tree where Roy was!! I have plenty of photos, and hope to post some more tomorrow.

Remember that river I got stuck in almost to my waist because of the wet sand?? It is bone dry now, and we almost get stuck in it while crossing it. The river in front of the camp as gone dry today - no more water flowing!! I shot a hippo in the morning, and a buffalo in the afternoon.
