So what Im really asking is, why not a case around 2.3" for 3.10"oal-for true fit in an Inter mauser or Montana1999? THe 375 ruger case at 2.3 will also relieve some of those pressure concerns that TC1 is smokin' about fishing Big Grin
The true rightful champion bore/case to me is the 9.3x64B yet for some strange reason we have the shortnecked 9.3x62 at one end and magnum reciever 375hh at the other taking the popularity stakes....rest assured when my new world order comes in, those two circus sideshow freaks shall be abolished.

i was thinking about a 375 beltless version of he 350 rem mag.

a 2", 2.1", 2.17, and a 2.3" version all make sense depending on the action. the mrc short action with its 3.1" max oal would be good for up to a 2.3" and getting the 300's @ 25000 fps should be no problem but the 2.1" will fit in a lot more actions. dont forget that some of the 375 bullets are shorter from tip to canalure.

the 2.3" version does make the most sense when married to the mrc. a true compact all rounder thumb

stainless please...

Everyone of us knows that if needed we all could live nicely with the elimination of every-other caliber and then additionally the elimination of more than half the cartridges in the remaining calibers!

In fact we could easliy not skip a beat if the total choices were only a dozen cartridges!

Fact is that we'd all be better off for it as the cost of guns and ammo would come down with the reduction in setup of all the calibers and cartridges!

Butthat's not the way it works here inthe old USA.....and let's be thankful for it!

Long live the .375 Ruger!!!!!

I think the real challenge these days is not what cartridge, what action, what stock, what builder, etc. The real challenge is getting to the point where you've actually got the rifle aimed at a worthy specimen for whatever species you happen to be after that day. 375 Ruger, 375 H%H, 257 Roberts, 25-06, 257 Weatherby. Bottom line you either have the shot or you don't. I don't care how magnum your magnum is. Forget about your keyboard take your rifle, what ever the caliber and go do it, pull the trigger, get off your butt and get the lead out. Go find out.
Go to the real world for a change, take a rifle with you. You can, still, take a rifle with you. Try to leave your cell phone at home, you will not die without your computer, give it a shot you might have fun.

OK... I read the article...

With hornady's magic powders and a compact 20" barreled rifle compiled with factory 338 win mag velocities... the 338 RCM does have a niche since Winchester came out with the 8mm instead of the 338.

Now on to the short 375 Big Grin

With a head diameter of .532 and if the WSMs are .555 then the short Ruger would have a tad more than 90% of the WSM's case capacity.

While many of us thought a 300 and 338 based on the full length 375 Ruger would be coming, perhaps the shortened 375 Ruger is designed with pushing the 308 and its various offspring to one side.

The short Ruger would be a little bigger than the 30/06 Improved so would work well down to 6mm

As Master of the Universe, I will decree that all existing cartridges will be eliminated in favor of a new twelve cartridge line-up:

6mm Short Ruger
7mm Short Ruger
300 Short Ruger
338 Short Ruger

300 Ruger
338 Ruger
375 Ruger
416 Ruger

375 Rigby
416 Rigby
450 Rigby
470 Rigby

I further decree that insofar as we have simplified and improved the cartridge situation, manufacturers will concentrate exclusively on turning out better ammo and better rifles. Every sportsman is required to own a rifle in each chambering.

I do not have the slightest bit of use for any of these. But better chambers, bores and brass would do us all a favor.

I love my .270 WSM, but in a way, I can see some logic in it. The WSM calibers perform well. I get 300 fps more than I ever could with my .270 Win, in fact it's right there with a .270 Weatherby only with less powder.

However, there is that royalty thing because of Jamison's bogus lawsuit. I can maybe see this being a success just because the manufacturers are sick of paying royalties that amount to $20-$25 per gun. maybe they will just let the WSM family die and then Jamison can go to hell since he surely didn't invent the concept of the short ,fat cartridge!!! I f it performs as well as the other WSMs, I think it may succeed.

A local smith took the WSM cartridges and made up rounds in 375, 416 and 458.. I know the 458 one, Hornady makes Dies for it as the 458 Noveske..

He was building them on short action Model 600 Remingtons, with a 16 to 18 inch barrel and shortened stock...recommending a 1.5 x 5 Leupold scope...

Good grief, we've "wildcatted" for years!!
Nobody complains about the .25-06, the 7mm-08 or some of Weatherbys offerings.
I don't think there is any trying to conspire. The're just trying to suit us with cartridges we would like. An opportunity for our selection, if you will. Most will fail. Look at the .225 Winchester, 5mm Remington, 6.5 Remington,7mm Remington Express(.280 Remington) and the like. The .264 Winchester. I would like one of those!!!! Just timing.
Ford only offered all black cars at one time.
Look what Sharps did with with their line of black powder ctgs.
We could just settle back with .30-30's, '06's and the like. That would be sufficient and O.K.
But, we want more.
That's what it's about.

The classic/popular catridges are well covered and catered for.If youve got some and your content, then good luck.
Theres certainly no harm in the Hornady/Ruger boys havng a little experimental/wildcating fun.
Unless your a share holder, ones choice is simple; buy one or Dont.
