Yea, right. The ZR1 runs well over $100,000 and the Z06 in the eighties. Cheap...to a multi-millionaire maybe. In reality, the 100 grand ZR-1 blows the $250,000+ exotics AWAY. Get ready for the 2015 Corvette's with an additional 100hp for a Z06 and 200+hp for the Zr1 over the 450hp base model 2014. Yehaw!

Woodrow S,

you guys got me so hyped up about these high HP corvettes that I went by the Chevy dealer this afternoon and got a catalog.

As of November 19th, there are no high performance options as far as engines in the 2014 corvette. 450 HP, which is standard, is it. There is a sport package with special exhaust that bumps it to a monstrous 460 horse, but that is it.

The brochure also makes no mention of a planned convertible.

Get over it fellas, the current corvette is waaaaaaaay at the bottom of the list for performance automobiles this model year.

Six cylinder 911's offer more horsepower, as do the XKR-S and F-type Jaguars. Convertibles both, standard in the F-type.

I can pen a short story of the top HP 2014 models, and there would be no corvette until you drop below 475 Horsepower.

They walked away...

You guys sound like Chicago Cubs fans. "Wait 'til next year..."

You are hung up on the 2014 model which is brand new from the ground up. It is a beta tester for more power to come. You ignore the facts that previous C6 Corvettes had more power, ranging from 430 to about 630 and these 2013 models are still for sale. Including a 505 rag top version.

If you want to buy a car because there are not that many on the road go for it.

I'm hung up on notion that if I want a fast car from GM, I get the camaro.
The corvette has a glorious history, but for now that means a used or non-current offering.

Skaj?

The two dealers in the area, Boise and Nampa do not even have one in stock. Unheard of...

Just ribbing you Rich. I've been forced to work on my Aunts and one of my best friend's Jag. They were bought new and had all of the very expensive dealer services. They were not {the cars} mistreated. Parts are a little difficult to find even in the DFW area and very expensive. You can get anything if time or money are of no concern.
I'm sorry, but I think they are a POS.
You would probably look down on my Mitsubishi.

that would only be natural. But, remember, I ride Harleys instead of the latest iteration of the multi-valve, VVT 200 rear tire horse jap bikes.

Actually Jaguar is owned by Tata Motors an Indian conglomerate.

The new corvette is sold out at most central florida dealers.

GM has hit it out of the ballpark with the new corvette, full size pick up, cadillac cts and its whole line of chevy sedans.

Now if it could get Uncle sam to sell its remaining 4% stake and get the stock to 50 - I may buy a GM full size truck and go shoot a buff or two.

It's sold out here too, but each dealer got ONE.
Not only are they the lowest HP vettes in almost 20 years, but you have a hard time finding them.
The jag dealer here has both XK-8's and the F-type. Nice car the two-seater, and a 496HP optional SC motor.

Styling is interesting; it looks like they blended the new Vanquish and the GT-R.

Yes, Tata has more money than Bill Gates.

I am not into sports cars or cars. Just not my thing. However, I need to get a pick up truck one of these days.

But the new corvette styling just blew me away when I saw it at the NY auto show this May, was there to check out new GM cars.

GM has designed and built a great car. Even the bastion of American liberalism loves the car.

HP aside. The new vettes will hit 60 mph in 3.8 sec. That is likely under perfect conditions. Late 60's muscle cars could barely break 6 seconds.
The new cars handle a lot better as well.
Noted an advertisement a few days ago with a Chevy Impala with a somewhat detuned 6.2 vette motor with a little over 400HP. I bet it will outrun any stock late 60's muscle car as well. A IMPALA!!
I have a old restored Austin Healy 3000 that makes a bunch of racket when you hit the gas but in reality, it will not pull a wet string out of a cats ass. SLOW!
I bet it gets as many looks as any hyper car out there. Red with wire wheels. Seldom driven..

Shelby again...

Just when the ZR1's thought it would be safe on the competition highway, Shelby has announced a new model. To go along with the 725 and 850 HP upgrades for GT 500's, the new "S1000" is now available in coupe or convertible. That stands for 1000 Horsepower and 800+ft/lbs of torque.

Top speed? "Comfortably over 220mph".

Ever think a Shelby would offer over twice the available horsepower of a same model year corvette?

Hellooooooooooooooooooo Santa...

Rich,
The press release that I read said 1200hp. You have to buy the $55,000 Shelby first and then invest another $155,000 with Shelby for the 1000 model!

1200hp, 220+ mph. A mustang. Was it tested that fast and secondly, (as a disclaimer I'm not stating this due to my distaste towards Ford, rather the sheer dynamics) will it be delivered to be able to attain such speeds, and be delivered durable enough to withstand that amount of horsepower and torque? What fuel does it use? Maintenance intervals?
Don't get me wrong, I love power and prefer it to come in packages labeled Chevy, Pontiac, Maserati and (oooh I wish!!!) McLaren, but power and speed always comes to a diminishing return, plus with compromise.
Ahh whatever...I guess it's hard for me to look at a production vehicle and imagine such things.

By the way lads, I know lack of pictures is criminal but I did see a blond trophy wife driving a jet black Callaway supercharged Corvette. It looked kind of like the new C7 (haven't seen one in person yet so will confirm soon) but it may have been a body kit. Regardless it flew past us (we were in our big old lifted '99 Tahoe) our daughter was having a huge hairy fit in the back and I didn't have time to get a picture. It sounded awesome!

Funny, Ferrari goes to the front of the pack with the LA Ferrari at 1.3 million and 963 HP; only to see Ford announce the S1000. You could nearly have an S1000 for every day of the week, different colors, for the price of the LAF.

My old Boss scrimped for years to buy a 430 Spyder only to have one of the mechanics at the Jag dealer (only service for 350 miles) ask him if it were a kit car.

Metalsmith,
I can kinda agree with you except the Maserati takes as much maintenance as the Jag a wer. I guess if you have the money you could have a 911 to drive when it is in the shop.

Want to see true car porn?

Check the red line at Ferrari of New England. They have, in Corso Red of course, an Enzo, an F50, an F40, and a 599GTO. All under 300 miles on the odometer. Asking price, a tidy $6,200,000 delivered in the lower 48.

Imagine having those four in the garage with bows on when you head for Church on Christmas morning and the wife says "I got a surprise for you in the garage..."
