Looking for a gun doctor to put a new front sight on a Winchester 94 and cut and crown the barrel. I have a 24” barreled 94 with a half magazine so Will Not need any changes to the magazine tube. Would like the barrel cut back to around 17 or 18 inches and crowned. Need holes drilled and tapped to mount a new sight ramp square and true to the barrel and action. Anyone up for doing this work in a timely manner? Thanks, Les | ||

Seems to me it would be easier and cheaper to sell trade the rifle for a carbine that all ready has the features you want. If it is a pre-64 then most defiantly. | |||

A pre 64 with half mag/24 inch barrel is the Model 64, made until 1957. And a pistol grip stock. If it is one of those, NO, do not alter it. | |||

And here we go with the armchair idiots. It is definitely not a model 64! It is definitely not a pre 64! It is an NRA commemorative made in 1971 of which I have 2 of. It has the less than desirable sintered finish on the action. It even has the pistol grip and overall does resemble the model 64 but it is not a 64. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction to accomplish what I want to do with my rifle rather than speculating on what I have and shouldn’t do with it. As to the question on tanks. It refers to fuel tankers and milk tankers I used to pull down the highway. Sorry for the confusion. | |||

You all are being the arrogant a holes, not the OP. The original post listed some very simple work that should be a couple hours work. Only unreasonable aspect of his question was the timely manner part. Timely manner is not something that gunsmiths have been able to get a grasp on since the first blacksmith wrapped some steel around a mandrel and put black powder in the hole. All you guys can do is bash his profession. At least they bust their ass to try and get the job delivered on time. Something most gunsmiths don't seem to be willing to do. As for collectability, the commemoratives, or instant collectors as dad called them, are worth less than a standard gun in my opinion. Particularly if is is not new in the box. My thoughts as well. The guy just asked a simple question. Being no magazine cuts forward of the forend cap, your work is fairly mundane. I could do it for you but my shop is not set up from our move out from occupied territory. (CA to AZ) | |||

Yes, he does give discounts to AR Members! Here is one he did for me a while back; I got it for only $4000, but I had to pay shipping. Note the clean rifling at the muzzle; it shoots into one hole. Guaranteed. Now, do not be alarmed at the front sight base; the duct tape holding it on, allows for easy adjustment if needed. A real innovation here. Highly recommended!  | |||

tom, that was with the benefit of an old blacksmith's vise -- and that was a work in progress photo -- the next pic had me artfully filling the gaps with loctite blackmax .. and i had a sharpie available for touching up the "crown" but you wouldn't pay for it!! said jeep paint is fine! this picture gets worse the more i look at it! there's at leat 2 different tools used to part that barrel off, if you look at the high-grade "texturing" .. bottom half looks like someone tried to part it with some worn out bearing lathe and a rock, the top half has vertical??!?!?!? Performance is all that matters and it does shoot into one hole every time. I didn't want to pay for rebluing, so, yes, OD green jeep paint will make it look new again. True, a little more work with the hog bit in a drill would have cleaned up your hacksaw marks. But it's fine as is. Sharp rifling is all that matters here. | |||
