I have a mauser chambered in 6.5-06, and since I don't reload, it ends up sitting in the safe with little attention. I know A-Square loads ammo for it, but I would like more selection and availability than having to order over the internet. Noticed the 6.5-284, like the balistics and see it it much more available in a variety of loads. The case dimensions appear to be close enough to the -06 case that bolt face mods wouldn't be needed. Maybe only shortening the barrel and rechambering? Any thoughts? I really like the rifle and think this would eb a good fit for it. You would need to set the barrel back in the range of .32". Even if you had enough shank to do it the barrel to stock fit would be terrible. I bet you would be looking at a new barrel. Far eaiser would be alter the boltface to a magnum and rechamber to 264Wmag. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

The other issue is that depending on the mauser you have, you may need to open the feed rails to accommodate the fatter case. I did. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

I agree you will have to do some tweeking on the feed rails to get it to feed as you would like, but 6.5/284 is a great round. I think it is slightly better than the 6.5-06 for accuracy. From a hunting stand point there is no noticable difference......Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

those two rounds are all but interchangeable .. if you don't reload, have it rebarreled for 270 or sell it and buy a mauser in 270 ... you will be miles ahead, since you don't reload opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Words aren't Murder - Political assassination is MURDER Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Thanks for the advice. I may as well just order a bunch of A-square and live with it. Nothing wrong with the 6.5-06 at all. I already have a .270 that is sort of a family heirloom as I think almost everyone of my uncles owned it at one time, then Dad gave it to me when I was 14. Lot of gun trading between the brothers :-) Plus, If I want a 6.5-284, it's an excuse to buy another rifle ![]() Bailey Bradshaw www.bradshawgunandrifle.com I'm in the gun buildin bidness, and cousin....bidness is a boomin
