I just received a 9,3 x 64 barrel today (Thanks Mike!). It was done originally by Jack Belk in 2000. It is 22" long, and not a heavy taper at all (2.5#). This rifle will be great for carrying, and more than "brisk" for shooting. The bore looks very bright (he, he, he).

Anyway, I have a Mark X action on hand. I have a Blackburn 30-06 length set of bottom metal on the way (Thanks Terry!). The present bottom metal has the sucky side release button.

The stock will have to be trim to match the barrel. This might need a recoil reducer in the buttsock and some lead in the forearm. We'll see. 2 cross bolts for sure. Bed it in Devcon Titanium Smiler. I will probably go with steel Weaver style bases and QRW rings by Leupold. That way I can use an NECG adjustable peep sight for iron sight work. 8x40 screw holes might be in order.

Will just have the stock trigger/safety worked over for smoothness.

Does anyone sell Weaver style bases made out of steel for the Mark X action?

Thanks,

LD

Weaver stopped making their all steel (Grand Slam) bases for the CD/Interarms Mark X.

However, when I called them on the phone, they told me the Warne steel bases are basically identical.

I purchased a set...they look the same to me.

Thanks for that information. I'll give Warne a call.

Well, this answers my question that I posted elsewhere for you. I'm amassing the pieces for a Mark Penrod built 9.3x64 on a 1951 model 70 action...

I don't recall anticpating any past project as much as this one. Already got dies and cases, NECG sights, Talley barrel band... fun times...

Good luck on your project...

Thanks,

What brand of dies are you using? Did you get your brass from Huntington's or Natchez?

Lawndart, glad you got that barrel from Mike. I got a set of RCBS dies for mine and I was given a fairly large box with some brass, a lot of boxes of bullets, Nosler, Sierra, TUG Brenneke, Bear Claw, Barnes and Norma brands. I have been hording brass wherever I could find it (and as the old joke goes - "my sister whored the other half)

Hey Chic,

I will probably get a reamer and gauges, unless Mark Stratton has some already. If I do you are welcome to use them for your next project. I will have to bite the bullet and buy some brass next week.

I'm starting to get excited about this project.
