My favorite Win M70 has a Brown Precision fiberglass stock that is tan with a black leaf pattern. The stock is beautifully done but I always wished that it was a bit darker...more like an earth-brown shade. I am wondering if any of you knew of a way to darken it with some type of outdoor stain...something applied with a rag until it is the right shade? I don't want to spray paint it a different color...just darken it. Anyone ever do this?

By no means an expert but thinking some form of wiping stain might give you some darker shades. Also some oil paints wiped on could give an effect. I used some burnt umber oil paint one time on an old cheap muzzleloader to give the wood some depth. I have no idea what the elements will do to these efforts. Might want a protective coat. If I'm correct your stock is painted. If you wish it to be darker I suggest you have it stripped and painted again. I have done this for myself and friends many times. I also know a guy who does this commercially and does fabulous work. The painted stocks are usually multiple layers to create the final appearance ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

Dust it from a distance w/ black spray paint until you have the darkness you want. The pattern underneath will still be visible, but muted. Shoot straight, shoot often. Matt

You could also take it to an auto paint shop and have it shot with coats of dark tinted clearcoat until you get the effect you want.

If you just want it temporary, I think you can still buy that removable, spray bow camo that can be stripped off with kerosene when you want it back to original again. When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!
