I have a Portuguese Vergueiro that I have had a 1909 Argy barrel fitted in 7.65x53, I then modified an old BRNO stock to fit. My intention is to make a nice light stalking rifle from it with a few custom touches....cantilever scope mount, lever floorplate, shotgun style trigger guard and a tang safety.
Some of this work has already started....I'll post a pic when I can...my enquiry is, does anyone have one of these they've modified? I know Uncle Grinch has, so lets see some pics!!!
The reason for this post being in Gunsmithing and not Sporterized Military Rifles is....has anyone fitted a tang safety to this model ???

Ok… you talked me into posting my Vergueiro again. It’s been rebarreled to 7x57.

I like 'em. If I could be bothered finding out how to post, I'd inflict you with pics of my home-sporterised Greek MS Smiler

The man knows what he is doing! Is the stock walnut or coachwood?

Thanks Roger, I might take you up on it eventually.

It looks as though you're into the MS, too. Unfortunately my old 1927 Breda has developed set-back. I thought that would be the end of it until I found a post-1930 Steyr action (claimed to be the 1903 Greek pattern) at a gunshow for $350. The seller said he would give me the barrel, too, and it might be better than mine, which is dark but shoots well.

My minimalist sporterising uses a rifle's original wood and, while the old Greek stock is ugly as an Enfield's, it has enough meat to carve a profile not unlike that on some commercial models.
