Just playing around with a few ideas of what to do with a #1. How long of a cartrdge can be fitted into this action? Thinking of something like an 8x88 or 9x99. Not really experienced in these matters just like to play around with ideas and maybe someday actually have something built. Thanks in advance

Tex-We are going to chamber some for my 458 HE, that the case measures 3.45 inches long/loaded length will be up to 4.3 incheslong. So the cartridges you envision will be OK.Ed.
Tex, I got a No#1 in 45/120.3.25" and another in 500 Nitro x 3.0". No problems except the nitro needed a bit off the top of the breach block to clear the rim during feeding.

I believe that theoretically there is no limit on case Length. The cartridge chambers directly into the barrel, the block comes up behind the cartridge holding it in place.

It's NOT a straight line into the chamber, but the action can be altered to take some LONG cartridges.
Fat is bad. The barrel shank is only one inch in diameter.
Failure would be as rare as Dan Rather behind a gunshow table, but both would make me nervous.
The worst I've EVER been kicked was Ross Seyfried's, Rebored to 470 Nitro, #3 Ruger with the factory stock. THAT sumbitch installed a flinch that lasted five thousand rounds!!
Jack--Ross never did like to add much weight. Still have picture of him getting kicked so hard, his shooting glasses came off.The ones they are putting my 458 HE in will be 13 lbs.All I had to do is show the guys who will shoot it,is Ross's recoiling photo from G&A..How far are you from Ross over those couple big hills..Ed.
Jim-- Brinton is a little 4 corners out NW of Mt. Pleasant.Between little towns of Weidman, Barryton, and Lake Station.Farm and woods country, blessed with deer and turkey galore.Ed.
