Well I got the barrel for my 400PDK this weekend. When I necked up brass to hold the 411 bullet the case neck measures .432". I have located a rental neck throater for a 411. They say the reamer cuts a .435" neck. Is .003" enough clearance? If not how much? Neck reamers I've purchased I just asked for std clearance. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

.003 is close, Paul... that's not match, but manson does .004 or so..i would check my rounds for awhile, as you might get a thick case every now and then jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Thanks Jeff. I had been thinking more like .005 as closer to std. I think I'll go ahead watch the brass and if need be a light pass with a neck turner. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

For my tight-necked guns, I turn my brass for 0.002" clearance. But then, I am eliminating the possibility of a thick neck. Praise be to the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

.002" is about the minimal clearance you need. With no-turn necks, .003" would make it a semi tight neck. For a hunting gun, this is probably on the lower side of what you want for reliability. Possible, but perhaps not ideal. .004-.005 would probably be more sensible. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon...
