How about this - affordable (under $250) and accurate (MOA). Am I asking for too much here? I honestly don't know. I have a gun coming in sometime this week which is going to be rebarreled and etc, etc, etc. I am just trying to find components that won't break the bank, but that work.

I am also thinking of going with a Boyds trigger. Any experience with these?

Thanks,

Brian

A lot of the blanks are close to that price range, but they are blanks. Midway had them for $290 from Kreiger and $140 from Douglas. If you go to IT&D web site, you can get the whole thing done very reasonably, including the barrel.

If you go to IT&D web site,

Last I checked ITD would supply, install and blue a douglas on a 98 for around $270 total. I have one I will be sending to them in the next month.

I have Boyds triggers on at least 2 M98s. They work fine and adjust well. Only issue I've had with them is the safety lever sticks out to far. I've ended up reforming and shortening mine.

As usual just my $.02

So it really doesn't matter which one I choose, they are all about the same accuracy wise?
Good enough, now I guess I just pick one and go.
Thanks for all the responses.

Brian

You are asking for MOA or better hunting accuracy from a 9.3X62. In a hunting rifle I have never had a Douglas or any of the other normal names fail.

Thanks for the patience guys. I am just ignorant where aftermarket parts are concerned and am trying to get an education with this Mauser project. If the 9.3 goes well, a 30-06 will be next.

Thanks again,

Brian

My borescope says Lilja makes the best barrels but my targets don't always tell me the same thing. I think you'll be satisfied with any of the suggestions so far within the price range you indicated. I usually buy Douglas but Shilen and Walther work just as well for me.

Krieger makes 9.3 caliber barrels and that is what I've got on my M98.

Here is a link to a list of premium barrel makers:
http://www.6mmbr.com/barrels.html

quote:
Bartlein Barrels
Precision single-point, cut-rifled barrels, from .20 to .338 caliber, plus .50 Cal, starting at $245. Wide variety of contours, very exact twist rates.
rifle barrels cut rifling

Border Barrels
Traditional Obermeyer-style "5R" cut-rifled barrels made in Scotland. Long barrel life, high quality. Distributed by O.K. Weber in the USA.

Broughton Barrels
Conventional and canted land (5C) pull-buttoned barrels. Stress-relieved and meticulously hand-lapped, Broughton barrels clean easily and the 5C offers enhanced velocities. Broughton Canted Land Barrels.

Hart Barrels
High grade push-button, hand-lapped barrels. Long, effective barrel life. Along with Shilen, Hart barrels have dominated 100/200yd BR for decades. Great choice for 6mm BR varmint guns too.

Kostyshyn Precision Barrels
Excellent hand-lapped buttoned barrels that have been winning matches, particularly in 30BR IBS competition.

Krieger Barrels
Cut-rifled barrels with very long barrel life. Top smiths say Krieger barrels are almost always straight and true. Fewer duds than some other brands. Hard to go wrong with a Krieger.

Lawton Rifle Barrels
Barney Lawton's barrels have been quite successful in long-range BR matches. Lawton Machine, LLC offers both cut-rifled and pull-buttoned barrels in 6mm through .408 bore sizes.

Lilja Precision Rifle Barrels
Hand-lapped button rifled barrels. Lilja's 3-groove 6BR barrels are very accurate and clean fast. Lilja's rim fire barrels are among the very best.

Pac-Nor Barreling
Barrel-maker and chamberer. Conventional barrels plus pre-fit, three-groove, and polygonal rifling.

Schneider Rifle Barrels
1403 Red Baron
Payson, AZ 85541
Phone: (928) 474-2852
Hand-lapped, pull-buttoned barrels with superb accuracy. Conventional and 5-land Polygon (P5) rifling options. Good prices ($254/blank). David Tubb uses Gary Schneider's barrels exclusively. Enough said.

Shilen Barrels
Big-name Texas barrel-maker still produces the lion's share of winning short-range BR barrels. They now offer ratchet (canted land) as well as conventional push-button rifling in 3, 4, 5 and 6 grooves.

Spencer Rifle Barrels
Accurate, button-rifled barrels available completely chambered in a wide variety of calibers. Tight control of tolerances. Considerable success in big-bore 1000yd guns and accuracy-guaranteed Varmint guns. Good value and excellent customer service.

Lothar Walther Precision Tools, (770) 889-9998
Buttoned barrels from proprietary super high-grade German steel. Polygonal rifling available in .223 and .30 calibers. Good value on prechambered and threaded barrels. Finished barrels for the M 98, Savage and CZ rifles. 54 standard contours and 1500 other contours are available.

That is a "Hoser" barrel on my BS cannon.

The earth is always getting warmer or colder, and I want to make money whenever it is getting warmer.

So with magnum loads of BS, I take aim at the microphones and bagged my limit of susceptible minds.

Called Lothar Walther. $350 for a 22 inch sporter weight barrel, becuase it is a "custom" job. 23.6 inch barrel is only $219. Am I missing something here? I figured since they were getting to keep 1.6 inches of barrel material it should be cheaper? I guess I need to call a smith and see what they would charge me to lop off that extra 1.6 and recrown.
Thanks guys,
Brian
