Have a 98 Mauser bolt (no rifle) that has a rim diameter of approx. .615". After surfing through Cartridges of the World and Google, I can't find a cartridge with a rim diameter close to this. Any ideas? Thanks!

It is an Interarms Mark X or Whitworth bolt. Can't imagine someone would use it for a Siamese project.

Probably for a weatherby cartridge, then.

Also posted this question on another forum. One suggestion was the .348Win & .450/.500Alaskan I have some .348Win cases. Very close to a 'perfect' fit to the bolt face. When I was looking for cartridges, my bias for 'normal' Mauser cartridges showed up. Never even considered the rimmed rounds.

Any extractor on it ? Some military Mausers (few) were made in 303 British .

Yes, it has an extractor that holds the case firmly to the bolt face. Without the rifle cannot know if it is fit properly for feeding. .303 Brit has smaller rim. http://stevespages.com/jpg/cd303british.jpg

Rimmed cases have a unique extractor . Like the dif between a 1917 enfield and a 1914 enfield . Hope this makes sense , no coffee yet !

Perhaps the reason it was for sale is because someone made a mistake when opening up the boltface? If it is an Interarms bolt, it wasn't factory made that way. It's possible that some one intended to build a 416 Rigby and went a little too far. Aut vincere aut mori

Never thought it was a factory made. Bolt face has clearly been opened up from the .532" magnum dimension. No way to know what the original intention was. Parts originally came from a police auction where the actions were stripped before being destroyed. Likely it was a completed rifle. Most likely stolen and never claimed by the victim.

It seems a little large for a 45-70, but it would probably work. I have made 45-70 rifles out of mausers that work just fine with a bolt face close to .614. You just have to be careful how you stack the cartridges in the magazine. SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

[QUOTE]Originally posted by TCLouis: Tapper2 How much trouble was it to get them to fed properly ignoring the simple fix or stacking the rimmed bases?[/QUOTE Obviously you have to stack them so the rim doesn't lock the cartridge from going forward. I just kept filing the edges of the mag until it worked the way I wanted it to. Ii takes a while but it works. SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC
