Suggestion. Get the two flute kind. It sounds like you don't have much D+T experience and these will be less prone to breaking. If one does then you'll know what tight ass is all about.

Sorry to come off as harsh, but this is a ridiculous request.

Nobody in their right mind would pay the postage for something that is worth less than the shipping cost, even as a favor.

OK OK I just thought that if someone was going to toss one in the trash or what it would be better to let someone have it. Like that Marlin 22 clip I try'd to give away and ended up tossing it.

Short,

I've given away several parts I would never use to guys on this forum in the past...but most people only throw away taps when they are broken or worn out. They don't cost enough to worry about trying to repair or resharpen them. In the time it took you to post this you could have gone to Home Depot and bought one for under $5 bucks...and they come with the drill bit in the same package! bewildered

There is not ONE 6-48 tap in Thomas CO. to buy. Said they can order it but not in stock. Brownells has them but SH costs more than the tap itself. I'll wait till I order some stuff from MIDWAY USA and get a couple then, thanks guys.

Not sure where you live, whether it is big city or not, but any local hardware store should have one.

Probably not the small stores, but the larger ones should.

Give MSC a shot. www.mscdirect.com
I'm not sure about their shipping policy but you may be able to get one of the customer service people to slap a 37 cent stamp on an envelope. They have always gone the extra mile for me.
