...in the San Jose area who can work on a DR. Need some basic work done, like new recoil pad and Mercury recoil reducer installed and possible trigger work.

Hi Lion Hunter
San Jose is a desert for gun related things. We Californians are just screwed that way thanks to our politicians and the anti gun climate here. Hope you get it sorted out so you can bring it to the next West Coast DRSS Shoot Smiler

I don't believe it requires any special skills to do Mercury recoil reducers, recoil pads, or, trigger work. Try one of these.

I believe cost of living is a huge factor also. Who can afford California Bay Area real estate on what a gunsmith brings in?

A bunch of Gunsmiths make a good living, but that is usually after they have established themselves. That is nearly impossible to do here in CA because of cost of living. And once a gunsmith is established in Idaho/Texas/Montana, why in the world would he want to relocate to California?

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.
