It's looks like I'm gonna become the owner of a Marlin 444 because the price is too good and it's a friend who needs the money. Is it possible to convert a 444 marlin into a Marlin 350 Rem Mag? There is no reason other than I don't need another 444 and I like the 350 Rem for esoteric reasons. My first thought is the cartridge is too long but I really don't have a clue.

Pressure of the 444 Marlin IIRC is 40,000 psi and the 350 Rem Mag is 55,000 .And the 350 uses pointed bullets ,not good for a tubular mag.

OK, I appreciate your thoughts but the 307 Win conversions have been done with the big bore levers and it operates in the 50-52K pressure range and they make flat point 35 cal bullets.

The 350 RM case is 2.170" in length and the 356 Win case is 2.015". If you seat flat nose bullets designed for the 356 to the cannelure in the 350RM the cartridge will be to long.

As to pressure, the 350RM has a larger case head and will have more bolt thrust than the 307/356. The 450 Marlin has the same case head diameter as the 350RM and it is factory loaded to 40,000 CUP for use in the Marlin action. I would consider that to be the max pressure for long term reliability in the Marlin action.
