How is the entire assembly held onto the barrel? Not the sight bead, but the entire band assembly? screwed, brazed, press fit?

I'm interested in a 2nd gen 375 H&H RSM at a local gun store, but I intend to set back the front sight and thread the barrel for a suppressor (for my wife).

It's a 2nd gen RSM. Safety on the bolt/trigger (versus the tang), but the front barrel band swivel sits inside the stock forearm.

you know, i don't recall properly, but i THINK they are milled into the barrel - I went and looked at the schematics on brownells to " confirm" but it didn't -- i SEEM to recall that the barrel band for the express and safari where never available BUT the #1 front sight base was - of which i've used several

I bought one of these the first month they came out, in 375. The front sight base is just like the other 77s and the #1; held on with a set screw and pressed/pounded onto the barrel; it varies on how hard they are to remove. Best way is the peen the outside on the bottom if they won't come off with a copper drift.
Making an integral front base like that would cost more than the entire rifle sold for.

Thanks - wasn't sure if they were brazed on or not. I was hoping a set screw and pressed.

Just curios, why not just pick up one of the 375 ruggers already set up that way?

The RSM was the only Ruger bolt action rifle chambered in the H&H cartridge. The new ones are 375 Ruger.

still regret selling my RSM in 2015. Reprofiled, refinished, recheckered stock, bedded, new pad, trigger job. Eventually made it to Zim to a guy that does PAC. I found that out a few years ago when I posted a pic on the 375 H&H FB group and he said he had the rifle.

Will the iron sights still be usable with a suppressor fitted as I imagine a good sized suppressor will be required for the 375H&H cartridge?

Such a suppressor hanging off the muzzle is going to be rather cumbersome whereas partial over barrel suppressors are much more balanced on rifles e.g. with a 13" long suppressor, 8" is back over the barrel with 5" forward of the muzzle.
Of course you cannot have a front sight in place when using this type of suppressor but do you need one when using scopes as most do now?
