Since the barrels are capable of being regulated after the fact I don't see why a standard rebore/rechamber wouldn't work. All will depend on the barrel wall thickness at the muzzle. Casehead thrust ought to be similar given same pressures. Cost would be $500 or better for two barrels. You'd have a $1000-$1100 gun that wouldn't resell for $300. Sounds like one of my projects! for the "average guy" here and i will claim to be one not discounting all of my charm and good looks...this sounds cool. i would save at least $2000 on a good dgr. double rifle that i would not be afraid to use in the field or knock around. i disagree on the resale though if i saw one i would jump at it but thats me. its kinda like buying a stock car or one that has been race modified. not everything we do makes sense here...most of us are just nuts and would spend half our time and income on hunting and guns and all the periferal stuff. some i say even most would call that...heaven i would say that a lot of our guns have a far more intrinsic value to us that would even double the actual resale cost. i will today coin the phrase...one's persons crazy is another persons heaven whats your "crazy" 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. I don't think there's anything crazy about it. I would say that the 30-06 with 220 gr round noses is about as effective as either round and the 45-70 has appeal too. If you want to move forward with a rebore I would find out the barrel outside diameter at the muzzle and ask the reborers willing to try the job if that is thick enough for the calibers you mentioned. If not the 9.3 x 62 would be cool too. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

yes the 9.3x62 would be great too...i was thinking the roughly original case might be better but it might not be that important. i guess i would have to have a gunsmith take a look at it first. and your right, the 30-06 with the right bullet and bang dust behind it is nothing to turn my nose up to. but if i were going the 9,3 route i would pick the 9.3x64 Brenneke, then you would be in the 375 h+h territory yeahaw!!!!! 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. I have not seen a Spartan and don't know how the extractors for '06 are made but you have to remember the rimless cartridge bugaboo in double rifles, my impression from my own (rather limited) experience and much reading is that only Westley Richards ever came close to getting the extraction and ejection right - and I had troubles with full loads in a WR .375 H&H.
