Hi all,
I am here in Iraq and need a favor from some of you. We are severely hurting for reading material. The PX here at Warhorse sells a few magazines and they generally arent that great. SCI sends over a few copies of Safari to each FOB and it was so good reading it I needed a cigarette afterwards, and I dont even smoke!!! I am hoping that any of you who subscribe to magazines would be willing to send them this direction after you are through. My guys are more than happy to cover shipping.

Especially wanted are the following: ( ) are my lusts:

gun mags (the nicer the guns the better!!!)
hunting mags (especially anything safari)
car and truck mags
sports mags
and any hunting books you may want to get rid of

If any of you want to pass off your old mags please email me at wberger70@hotmail.com so I can send you shipping and give you my address here in Iraq.

Thanks so much.

LD - you have a PM with my address

Thanks a million

Z1R - several of my guys are REALLY big into car and truck mags. I lean more towards the gun side.

Hey, Bill...War is hell huh?

I’m right in the middle of your most recent “care-package†so I’ll toss in some mags along with the other goodies.

I got a really small book you might enjoy (it’s only one page, double spaced): “Famous Italian, French and Iraqi War Heros.â€

m1tanker...

besides magazines is there anything else you guys need???

i think it would be great for those here on a.r. to adopt a platoon or two...

gun cleaning kits, canteens, wet wipes, dvds, knives ect.

could you make a list and post a thread or i will post it for you. we can call you guys our A.R.my thumb

i am sure there is a ton of stuff you guys could use that is in our garages collecting dust or we are not using or we could buy. my place is small but maybe someone can donate storage for the stuff and maybe someone has a shipping connection. lets see whast happens...

thank you for being there serving and protecting.

M1Tanker sent me a list earlier. It might be a while before he comes back online, so I'll post it for him (cut and pasted from his email):

Moisture wicking socks - pricey, but save a lot of feet from blisters (thorlo is one brand but there are others)

Gillette Sensor razor bladed - we all have the Sensor razor but cant get refils here, only ones available here are the Mach 3 or worthless disposable that tear up the face

Uvex Genesis or XC ballistic glasses - in amber type tints - the Genesis is the better pair and they run about $11 a pair. The amber tints work better than the grey. We can get prescription inserts that attach inside the lenses through the Army for these 2 models

quality LED type flashlights - prefereably with a colored and clear option

those of us who do have LED flashlights cant get new bulbs - most of us were issued the Smith and Wesson brand - here is a link to the ones we have -

http://www.powertechinc.com/sw_index.shtml

Ours are the Galaxy 3x with red and white

22 caliber Bore Snakes

22 cal bore brushes

bore solvent

Militec gun lube

multi vitamin

athlete foot / jock itch spray - itis available here but you have to go on sick call and that usually pulls you off of the days mission which screws your team over

I forgot to add earlier that the ballistic glasses I listed earlier are required wear also. We were all issued grey lenses but they get scratched up real quick and the amber / copper / rose tints work better

And for wish list stuff - paperback books - there are tons of chick books over here but very little on the way of action, fantasy, sci fi, western, or techno books that guys like. Book clubs back in the states send books by the thousands, but they are mostly romance and drama

guy type magazines - muscle building, car and truck, etc...

and any music CD's and movie DVD's

I'm a little tied up with the Scholarship Rifle right now, but if someone(s) else would to volunteer to act as Quarter Master to accumulate and ship the gear, I'd love to buy some of this gear online and have it shipped to them.

cool, thanks forestb.

who can store the stuff and who can ship the stuff?

so we'll need cash to ship as well as the items.

maybe we could ask the local gun stores to leave a sign or a flyer at the register for people to purchase the stuff while they are there that they would donate that way the gun store gets business and the buyers can participate in support. that could multiply the effort.

maybe a.r. members could pool collections by state.

if bought on the internet they could have it shipped to the state storing sponsor.

if need be i could store the california items...the wife wont like it cuzz all the stuff already there and she is a neet freak/obsesive compulsive Roll Eyes
but this is a good cause.

sound off...what can you do??? wave

I'm going to mail him that case of Scientology material I swiped from the library, and the other case of Christian Scientist training manuals. I was using them both as bullet traps for ballistic testing.

Damndest thing; the pages of the christian scientist books heal up in an hour or two after a shooting session. The Scientology stuff does too, but only if I shoot it from behind.

Somebody remind me to tell the story of the Christian Scientist who broke his leg on a training jump on Sicily Drop Zone, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, in June of 1977 when I was the senior medic on drop zone coverage...........

Bill’s (M1Tanker) APO:

William Berger
A Co 3 STB
Unit 51503
APO AE 09336-51503

It takes anywhere from 1 ½ to 2 weeks for a package to make it there so keep that in mind when sending any food stuffs.

Being a Muslem country, be really careful about the picture content of any mags you send, don’t want our boy to get busted on our account! Smiler

They have a PX where they can get most stuff so don’t bother sending “survival†type gear like baby wipes and stuff like that. That gear was great when the actual drive for Baghdad was going on and the guys were living under their Humvees, but it’s not really needed by most of the troops now.

Bore-snakes are really good (.22, .30, 9mm and 50 cal). So is a good supply of Gold Bond foot and body powder. Those little 8x monoculars you can pick up at just about any place that sells sporting goods are also a great item. I must have sent 50 or 60 of those to my son and his outfit and they loved them. Powdered Gatoraide is also a big hit if you can find it.

The most important thing to send is mail (snail or email) just to let these wonderful guys and gals know that we are all thinking of them.

Hello the Campfire:
I was wondering what to do with all of the gun and hunting mags and paperback books that I collected after my bypass surgery a couple of months ago. I will have a package on the way this week end.
If someone is taking up a collection for the purchase of some of the more costly needs, or postage, please let me know, on here or by e-mail. Things are a little tight since I have been out of the office for the last seven weeks, but I want to help out.
I HOPE THAT THE GUYS AND GALS OVER THERE KNOW THAT ALL OF US ON AR PRAY FOR THEM AND HOPE THAT THEY GET HOME IN ONE PIECE AND ALIVE, SOONER THAN LATER.
Good luck to all.

For any of you pondering the wishlist posted above, there are several items that haven't been spoken for as of yet.

You can however cross socks off the list. Bill's got 30 pairs of Cool Max/Merino Wool socks headed his way. Don't forget to share, Big Guy. Smiler
