45-70 nef handi rifle to 450 nitro 3"
with the new 450-400 nitro 3" comming out from hornady, a good supply of cheap(er) brass is comming out and i thought can this be a cheap way to make a 450 nitro express??? bewildered

expand to 458 and viola?!?!?!

what do you think?

should be done easily on the 45-70 ruger #1...

Boomy,
wanna come shoot my 45/70 handirifle, with 'warm" loads in it first?

not even *I* would take the recoil

o.k. so how much do they weigh???

so this idea might need to be limited to the 45-70 in ruger #1 unless you are wearing a p@##y pad...

so is this a good way to make cheap(er) 450 nitro rounds???

I calculated that my 45/70 handi rifle could take anything, but started out with a trapdoor load 40 gr IMR4895 and 405 gr, it kicked me into next week.

I did not fire the second shot through that rifle for over a year.

My 300WM has no kick at all in comparison.

Didn't take me long to misplace that factory"pad". They call cement slabs pads too don't they? Anyways I hardly go over 1500fps with anything in it anymore.

Mine weighs just over 6 lbs too. Very nice to carry around, but recoil will make you notice. I shoot lever gun loads in mine, and it takes some mental focus to get past the recoil. There's no way I would do ANY big nitro chambering in one.

I have to put a new pad on mine as well - the factory one is a shotgun style pad with the rubber webbing inside, and those webs have started separating and breaking down. I don't know if it's just premature aging or recoil (I've only had the gun for 4 years or so). Would a kick-eze be overkill on this gun?

Okay, I have th Buffalo Classic in 45-70 and even with Garrent and Buffalo Bullets load they are not too heavy to shoot. I would love to take my other BC 45-70 and rechamber and even shorten the bull barrel.

I once asked hear about making one of the H&R slug guns into a Paradox rifle with brass case loads and conical slugs.

I removed the butt plate from mine and poured #8 lead shot in until it was compacted full and put the (hard) plate back on. Huge difference, but high velocity loads still shove you around in good order.
