I would agree, they all can be blown up, but it has to be a dramatic overload, not a near max load. When I hear these, it reminds me of some fraternity bros. at UMR when I was at Missouri who filled a ceremonial black powder cannnon with 2 pounds of Red Dot since they couldn't locate any black and killed 3 people. Now for the scary part- the cannon handloaders were in the College of Engineering!

Normally I'd agree but there have been instances where there was bad gunsmithing resulting in a ruptured case, such as the huge chamfer installed by Schneider on their barrels they attached to the M-70 push feeds!

Failing to counterbore a Remington 700 barrel will allow a failure of the thin rim of the bolt face to allow a ruptured case. And a frequent cause is to fire such a round as a .308 in a .25-06 chamber.

Had Hornady not given their 450 Marlin case a very long belt, it could have been fired in such chambers as 7MM Rem mags.....this might cause a lot of havoc.....there are many ways to blow up a rifle other than bad handloads.

FWIW.....If I have a choice of action I'm using in such an event....it's the Remington 700 way way before the '98 Mauser.....and I'm a fan of Mausers.

What's the story behind that action Jeffe? Was anything ever resolved?

There was a Savage action that blew up causing an injury.

The action had a slot cut deep in through the threads at the factory.

A friend of mine got the action when the police were done with the investigation.

I compared it to my Sav110 30-06, and my rifle does not have the deep cut.

I have overloaded my Savage until the bolt jams, and it does not blow up.

i've got no clue.. i think the first time i saw this was on this thread, as I generally "ignore" savage threads (they usually go "wow, it's ugly, but boy does it shoot") ...

I have never even seen reference books with an action so blown.
