I’ve now been officially “chastised†for my gutter vernacular (I had to look that one up!) so I guess I’ve joined thae club of all the other guys on here that our moderator feels a need to PM in his duty as den-mother or chaperon, or whatever!

From the emails I’ve gotten from the other members of that exclusive club I must say that I feel quite honored to have joined their ranks.

Maybe we could call ourselves the band of bubba- ettes!!!

No, you little twit, my parents were married so I don’t qualify for that job.

Why don’t you go back to being the hall monitor at your Jr. High and catch some kids smoking in the bathroom or chewing gum or something.

Yeah, I was a “bad-boy!â€

I think, (in my best Strother Martin impersonation), what we have here is a “faila ta caa-muncate.â€

Or...a very good example of what happens when a couple of Alpha-Males try to decide which one is dominant.

Piss, moan, piss, moan.

If some people didn't feel the need to start a pissing match every time something doesn't go there way, we wouldn't need the pissers emoticon (which I introduced here, by the way Big Grin ).

We posters are all spoiled on this site.
I've copped some flack from posters but not moderators (Yet). The previous forum I was on was so tough you wern't allowed to go S*** , because people "knew in their mind what you meant".
So when the moderator roused on me one day (I mentioned this AR forum,) I had to leave because I couldn't express myself properly in normal english. Eeker

"It degrenerated into name calling and reputation attacks on people that don't post here. It was no longer a gunsmithing topic, in the least, nor productive, and I sent to the moderated que."

Jeffe, I just don't see it. People questioned his pricing and how he could do the work for that price but I certainly never saw this person name slandered or his work quality questioned. Deleting it was a very poor choice, it was a valid discussion related to gunsmithing and what folks are charging for it. I thought the guy was horribly underpriced.

I thought the original request a bit, or more than a bit rediculous. Maybe we need one on where $1 a gallon gas has gone, but then that is another story.

This was the weakest case for censorship I have ever seen on this site or any other.

Thanks Don,

Chic, I beg to differ, the worst type of censorship brooks no criticism. This entire thread's presence refutes that premise. Now, of course I can't argue about the marital status of my parents before my birth, though that has little to do with me actually being a ba$$tard, but I take that this is an expected requirement for a mod Smiler animal

Not to challenge anyone, but does typing F@#$@#$@#$ and a####ole in a pulic forum seem in any way a desirable and/or preffered method for discussion to occur?

jeffe,

I replied to 22WRF, the little “kitty-cat†(see, I didn’t say pussy!) using that language as a JOKE because of his/her [?] apparent shock at seeing such words printed in public. Which is kind of funny since he/she turned right around and quoted my post and put those “offensive†words right back on the screen!

As I said in reply to your several PM’s on this subject, you are taking this whole “moderator†thing just a wee-bit seriously...IMO.

Us “kids†were all getting along just fine before you decided to start the spankings.

My whole point (if there was one) is that you seem to be quite selective in how you enforce these supposed rules on language and on “fair-play†when topics are being discussed on here...and I find that just a bit hypocritical to say the least.

Please point out which post I made where I copied those "offensive" words right back on the screen.

Moreover, I didn't say I was shocked. Rather, I just tried to point out that there may be folks who have kids looking at this forum, and those folks kind of trust that AR is a good wholesome forum dedicated to people who love guns and not a place where a lot of colorful language is going on.

By the way Rick, even though I never met the guy, I think Gore spelled his last name VIDAL.

In addition, I made a post speaking of the loose set of rules that AR operates on. What I was trying to get at in a roundabout way is whether removing something is censorship when it is (if in fact it is) against the rules in the first place.

Why am I not all that surprised that you know how to spell his last name???????? Smiler

Maybe you are the mighty moderators can “splain†me this one. If this offensive language is against all these rules, and we are so worried about kids seeing it and peoples work computers setting off alarms, why did the thread just get moved over to another area??? Does the Misc. section have some filter that doesn’t allow kids and office networks to see the offensive words???? It’s okay to “trash†someone as long as you do it in the correct area????

Just another example of the silliness, and hypocrisy going on here. You can use whatever language you want in some AR forums, but in others its against the “rules?â€

Tex21,

I think the real issue is that there was a valid discussion of gunsmithing methods that by my recollection didn't involve the name calling that some assert was going on. Then, for some reason, the plug was pulled on the thread. I think that it was good that many here voiced their objection to this censorship and, as a result, the opriginal thread has been restored allowing further discussion of the original topic.

If this topic had not been posted in the gunsmithing forum who would have read it?

I for one am horrified by foul language. Everytime I use it, it pisses me off, lol.

well there Popenmann, Swaw may be the best choice for you then what was their delivery time frame?. i have heard the A&B barrels rifling is not deep enough for the cast bullets? i don't shoot those so i really can't back up that claim. as far as the reamer goes PTG up here in Oregon makes a good reamer and i have quite a few. but he only makes piloted reamers for special orders which ain't a bad thing. and like any tool maker he ain't fast about getting to it and his customer service sucks. i'll just let you know that up front. now Dave Manson also makes a good reamer too and the lady he has on the phone is very helpful and friendly and a pleasure to talk to unlike the staff Dave Kiff has at PTG if you ever happen to need a reamer re-sharpened don't use PTG it will cost darned near what a new one costs call Dave Manson he charges $30 for any reamer any caliber. there is one more local reamer maker to me and i hear he is the best there is and i get this from some picky bench rest shooters. his name is Hugh Hendriksen he is in Talent Oregon and his # is 541-535-2309 i personally don't know him just his reputation and it's top notch. as far as cast bullets go i think a walther barrel would be a good choice too due to the very deep and heavy 4 groove rifling in the barrels like the orig. mauser barrels had. but as they say that's just my 2 cents.

But I must admit while I feel that "bad language" isn't really necessary to express ones self, but it does take a greater than 5th grade vocabulary clap

I'd much rather just ignore the words (or the post) than have censorship imposed on something that might have value to some readers here. The openness and most poster(s) knowlage levels are one of the good things about this site and why I login here Razzer

For those that might have missed all the flap about language, it didn’t start until AFTER the thread had been removed. The actual thread had little, if any, foul language used.

malm posted a question about where the thread went and used the infamous “F†word in his post. He then got told that such language was not acceptable on AR. And the rest, as they say, is history.

If “we†will be honest about this, it is very apparent that it was not malm’s use of the word that brought the knee-jerk reaction from our moderator, after all that word is used pretty frequently on here, it was the fact that the word was used in connection with an action taken by our moderator that was being questioned.

THAT’S what this is all about...not a silly thread about how much should be charged to barrel a rifle or how long it takes to do so.

What added to this ridiculous exercise was the hypocrisy that many of us saw...not the least being that our moderator had been a participant in the “offensive†thread that he deleted and actually had been one of the most vocal in expressing his disbelief that this guy could barrel a rifle in the time being claimed and for the prices being quoted.
