Man, you need to get a Bass Getter like mine. It seats 2 and has an electric engine. It is light enough that I put it on the roof rack of my Mitsu Lancer. Saving my money for a turbo. It is slower than the rest of traffic at this time.

Oh, no sir, I defer to you in all matters of Mitsuhooshis, paddle boats, and other such stuff.

Now back to the regularly scheduled "Which Truck to Buy" program. I gotta lace up my Birkenstocks for the walk home.

Owned Dodge, owned Chevy, and finally saw the light.

2012 Ford 6.7 Powerstroke 1 ton. 71,000 miles and zero problems. 19 MPG!

However, I would NEVER own a 6.0 or 6.4 ford. LEMONS!!

86 F250 6.9 450,000 mi was STOLEN then I bought
New
99 F250 7.3 (early) Sold @ 355,000 mi because

I bought 06 Chevy 2500 HD Duramax which currently has 205,000.

None of the Fords were ever back @ the dealer no problems.
Dmax 1X @ dealer replaced egr motor.

If I was to buy a truck today I would look for an LBZ Duramax with low mi or an EARLY 99 7.3.

I will never buy a Chrysler product.

BTW: I have not owned a gas vehicle since 1986 all have been diesels . Cars 1984 MB 300SDL, 1982 MB 300TD (still have), 1995 MB 300E (diesel)
1985 Jetta TDI(sold) 2012 Jetta TDI(sold)
Currently 2014 JSW TDI

Obviously there are exceptions, but MANY people who think they have to have a diesel truck are wrong. If you compare the costs of a diesel engine, typically $3-4k over a gasser and the costs of upkeep (oil changes alone cost much more), not to mention if something breaks, then, again, MANY people who think they need a diesel would be much better off with a big gasser IF they are planning on towing heavy loads intermittently. Not to mention that diesel fuel typically is significantly more expensive than gas. Obviously if you're towing loads for a living, like hauling cattle trailers everyday, this doesn't apply but for the person who takes the camping trailer hunting a few times a year it certainly does. I own an 06 Dodge Cummins, been a good truck, but I won't buy another diesel, not worth the extra money to me.

Charlie,
You are correct. Though my Duramax has been the most dependable vehicle that I have ever owned and was bought when diesel was cheaper, I couldn't justify a diesel at this time for the same reasons that you mentioned.

BTW 4x4 Diesels are very poor off road in the mud. The weight of the engine makes them sink and they will get stuck in a heartbeat.

I've been lurking on several forums watching this very question play out. The best is the Ram Eco-Diesel forum.

http://www.ram1500diesel.com/f...500-ecodiesel-forum/

I don't need anything more than a half-ton, as all I pull is a 1500-pound fishing boat and trailer. So I don't need anything like an F-250. The Ram 1500 ED is very tempting. Guys are getting 30 mpg in the real world, and Fiat-Chrysler seems to be getting the bugs out, which historically is an issue with Chrysler products. The guys on the forum are wide open about any issues.
There are three other rigs I am watching. Chevy's new diesel option in the Colorado seems like just the thing, but I am not much of a GM guy, and the Colorado will be priced as higher or maybe higher than the Ram half ton ED.
The new guy on the diesel block is the Nissan Titan with a Cummins powerplant. As a gasser, the Titan didn't grab much market share, but things look brighter with the diesel option. I think the Ram will still be a better bang for the buck.
What I am really excited about is the Nissan Frontier due in 2017 with a new, smaller Cummins diesel.

I currently drive a 2010 Frontier V-6 4X4 crewcab and it has been a really great vehicle for my needs. Handles my boat -- or a load of gravel or half a dozen sheets of plywood just fine, gets 17-24 mpg depending on roads, 88,000 trouble-free miles.
I know some dislike Japanese brands, and a lot of you need a full-size pickup. But the Nissan comes in No. 5 in the top 10 Most American truck list.

One other thought. Being of Social Security age, with three fused lumbar vertebrae and some cervical arthritis, I like having a compact truck when it comes to maneuvering in traffic and parking lots. I would really struggle handling and backing a full -ize or long-bed as it just plain hurts to twist around and look behind me. The new back-up cams help with this, but are not a full solution.

There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

Butch:

The world, and particularly the internet virtual world is full of fucking idiots, the above is just another example. If he knew shit from shinola he wouldn't talk about things he obviously knows nothing about.
