DUKVenkat,
very interesting pictures from an unknown world; thank you very much indeed for sharing!
Could you tell us a little more on the races and their background, the animals and the reagion you hunt?
Where exactly in India were these pictures taken?
Best regards!

venkatDUK,
Chippiparai:- This breed is from tamilandu region of India.Exactly these photographs were take in a place called rajapalayam in tamilnadu. These dogs works as watch dog and an excellent hunter.it hunts hares and deers. In some parts of tamilnadu they use them for wearing out wild boars too..
Waghari:- This breed is from saurastra region of India. These breed is named after the tribe called "waghari".These dogs were used for hunting hares.
pack of waghari's can gracefully kill a leopard quote from Indian Dog by Major W.V Soman.
Pandikona:-its an aboriginal Indian breed.Named after the place called "Pandikona".
In telugu(local language)"pandi" means "boars" and kona is "cliff".The name itself says its extensively used for hunting wild boars.but these are versatile dogs used for hunting various animals like hares, boars, foxes and wolves. These works are terrific Live stock guardians.Recently there was an article saying that 4 pandikona fought hard with a leopard keep there Livsstock safe unfortunately some end up with death

Charles_HelmThank you for posting all of those additional pictures. Great shots of the dogs and the terrain but I was also very interested to see the spears.
From the looks of the countryside it would be a very challenging place to chase boar. Is it also possible to come across a leopard in those rocks?

thanks, its great fun and risk running on those rocks in search of boars with your hunting partners.I didnt see any leopard there but shepherd people say they come across leopards while they take livestock for grazing

Thanks.Problem is hunting is banned in India.Taking pictures of boars and deers highly risky.so most of them avoid taking pics of the prey.

SevensIs there some meaning behind the scars on the dogs? It appears that each dog has the same sequence of scars; horizontal slashes on the legs (3 on front leg, two on back leg) and two "+" signs on their sides.
21 September 2009, 07:33
venkathorizontal lines on friend and hind legs were brand marking made by villagers. They feel that this process will increase the immunity of the dogs towards the diseases. Some + marking were result of there hustles with the wild boars

LorenzoVenkat,
I understand perfectly the problem about taking pictures. Just hope you guys still manage to hunt now and then without being catch !!

Here in Uruguay we have lots of chitals that were brought near 100 years ago from India, today they are plenty, it's a beatiful animal and very sportive to hunt.
This is me with my last chital.
Here is the biggest one I ever saw and was hunted by a friend of mine.

Kamo GariGreat pics, and thanks for sharing. Some wonderful terrain shown, too. Those massive boulder strewn hills are very impressive.
A couple of those dogs look like they could use an extra meal, though (such as the one clearly showing his spine througuh his skin)!
