I'd like a lever action that holds 10 rounds, doesn't kick like the 45-70, but also has a little more power than th 44 mag. I've heard that the new puma rifles are a pretty good deal. I thought about the 454 casual and like the idea of both, but the 480 ruger seems to be calling to me. I will be selling my marlin 45-70, as I still have my single shot for that caliber, and for a lever action I'd like more magazine capacity with a little less recoil. has anyone used or bought this rifle or this caliber? how do you like it?

do you have a guide gun or a longer 24" barrel 45-70? 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

if it is just more rounds sell it and get the longer bareled version with the longer mag tube... if it is recoil...well that is what rem factory ammo is for 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

well, it's a few other things as well. I want to try something different. I also would like to get a matching handgun(that isn't gigantic). I like the idea of using a lot less powder per shot and also keeping the 10 round capacity in a lightweight smaller rifle. It wouldn't be used past 75-100 yards.(I've got my 300 win mag and single shot 45-70 for that) I still haven't made a final decition on caliber yet, but it's between 44 mag, 454 casual, and 480 ruger. If someone made a leveraction in a 475 linbaugh, that would make up my mind for sure.

I purchased it for right around $525 after shipping and fees. Now I'm thinking I won't sell my marlin, but instead save to get it converted to a 50 Alaskan. Then I'll have 2 levers in not so popular calibers. One for plinking and deer, and one for blowing the crap out of stuff or big critters. If I remember correctly, Wild West Guns can convert my marlin for around $500 has anyone converted their marlin to the 50 AK?

Yes,had a couple Marlins by WWG,No complaints..Also,Dave Clay is Great at this,he even converted a Stainless Marlin 1894 45lc to .50JRH with 16"SS Octagon barrel for me.(Same as a 500 Linebaugh,but .500 bullets,not .510) "That's not a knife..THIS is a KNIFE" !

well, I went to pick up my Puma 480 ruger and I opened the box, got it in my hands, and then the kid came back and said my background check was denied. He told him the only thing I have on my record is one DWI, and he told me that every person that tryes to buy a gun after getting a DWI never passes the background check. So I have to mail an apeal to the FBI and wait forever before they can transfer the gun into my name.

just an update to this. I got the rifle and took it to the range I shot 40 rounds of Hornady 325 gr xtps through it. Some notes on the quaulity: 1.)There was rust in the barrel. I was able to clean that out but the end neer the muzzle looked like it had already been corroded some. I believe this is what lead to horrible accuracy. 2.)The sites were way off. Even when I adjusted the rear site as low as it would go, it would still shoot about 2 feet high at 50 yards. 3.)It does not feed smoothly at all. Sometimes it feels as if it's going to jam or that you will end up bending the round from the amount of force you have to use to cycle the round in. 4.)it completely tears up the brass when it ceycles. I cycled a round ten times and the brass almost didn't have any spots on it that weren't deeply scratched. it also put large indents in the head of the cases. (No reloading cases after they've been fired through this rifle.) The good news is that I called Legacy International and they said to send it in and they would fix it. There was no hassling at all. They acted as if they know some of these rifles were sent out in very bad shape. I told them I could not afford to mail them the firearm at the moment and they paid for the shipping without hassle. I got a definate lemon, but the customer service is the best I've delt with. I very much hope they can fix these problems and send me a decent firearm back. This carbine could easily become my favorite woods rifle.
