If you could build it what kind of lever action would you like to see.

Myself I would like to see a Savage 99 style.

Caliber I would love to see the 350 Remington Magnum necked down to 338. I would pick the 350 due to short overall case length. So I would have the same or better velocity than the 338-06 with a shorter action.

So what would you guys like to see and what do you think of the 338/350 suggestion?

As long we're dreaming, how about a Savage 99 takedown in 260 built no heavier than absolutely needed, say six pounds with a 24 inch barrel and iron sights. As for the 338/350, being a "wider is better" sort of guy I'd rather have a Waters 416 Express.

A Savage 99 in .280 or 7mm08. Good and light and short enough for brush. Iron sights Case colors on receiver and good wood.
I would love to have a 99 but Winchesters and Marlins are about all you find here in Alabama. Most Alabama hunters used shotguns on deer until the last few years.

A savage 99 is my choice also-- I always liked the tang safty design. Chamber it in 350 Remington mag. Shoot, I would even like a 308--- never see them for sale at a price I can afford!

I like the 99 a lot, but remember the old Sako Finnwolf. Make it in Stainless, put a Simms pad on it and a good quality kevlar stock, cut the barrel to 20" and chamber it in .358 Win. Top it off with Leupold 2-7x compact.

Or, just a switch barrel stainless 99 with a 20" barrel in 7mm-08 and .358 Win.

Aw hell.....maybe just a stainless 336 in .35 Rem and a good synthetic stock would do.

I would love to see a Winchester Model 1892 in either 22 Hornet or 256 Win. It would also be nice to see the Winchester Model 1895 come out it 9.3x62mm or 10.75x68mm.

Cheers,

I woudl add to the 99s, a light-weight Model 88 Winchester in 25 WSM.

Heck any lever in 25 WSM would be great, but I guess the cartrige need to come out first, right?

Ever thought about just using a BLR mag lever action .. it will take a 458 win mag by just changing barrels and running a reamer into it ..

1886 Win chambered for 45cal on a 50-110 full length necked down - yes a longer 450 Alaskan. Also same case necked down to 375 as well.

There are a few things I'd like to see. One is like a Winchester 71 strong enough for the .500 S&W and similar rounds. A pistol cartridge size version of the old Stevens 425 lever action. It looks like a Marlin 336 with side eject, exposed hammer, and tube magazine but the bolt stays in the receiver like a Savage 99. A new 99 updated with a detachable rotary magazine would be a good thing too.

I would like to see a Win 94/Marlin 336 sized and shaped action that is capable of handling higher pressure 308 based rounds. The ability to handle spitzer bullets would be a plus. I know the Savage 99 and BLR can do it but the 99 is shaped different and the BLR is larger and blocky looking compared to the 94/336.

I have a few other gun projects on the board ahead of it that I can't afford either, but I'm going to build a 429 SST on a Marlin 95 action (.348 Winchester necked up to .429, Ackley Improved). With 300gr bullets, this should be the cat's meow if you like hard hitting cartridges (probably on both ends).

I'd be perfectly happy with a Marlin 336 in 375Winchester.

a bit less overkill for whitetails.

A nice bolt action Model 70 CRF in 10.75x68 would be my number one choice.

For a Savage Model 99, I'd really like to have a solid frame 99-H carbine with carbine butt and barrel band forend in .25-35 winchester or possibly .219 Donaldson Wasp.

Being the Sav 99 nut that I am...
I've thought about the 99 but in a scaled up version that would feed the large rimmed cartridges like the 45-90, 50-110 and the 500NE etc Smiler Now wouldn't that just be NICE!

Alberta - I just got a 99H in .30-30 (1930 vintage - SN 340xxx) back together a few months ago: 99H Right 99H Left
I once saw one in .218 Mashburn Bee Sav 99 varminter that was sweet! I agree with you that one of the wildcats on a rimmed case would be nice. I have a set of 6mm x 30-30 AI dies for this reason. Smiler I also have another original 99H carbine buttplate stashed away.

A Savage 99 in .376 Steyr but pressure might be a bit high so a Browning BLR in .376 Steyr would be nice

I'd like a scaled up version of the winchester 94 to shoot the 500 S&W with a 24inch barrel and as many rounds as the tube would hold. Might as well make it pistol grip wood stock and no big hoop lever.

You know, a Marlin that could handle a factory load 458 Win mag would be pretty cool. Not to mention a nice stock design that didnt stomp you into the mud and yank you back out all in one shot. I am still waiting for Win or Marlin to make a levergun that shoots the 500 S&W(full power, not the special).

I am not building it but Mic McPherson is. A Marlin 1895 510 Kodiak Express with all of Mic's bells and whistles. Should be ready by early summer. The 510 KE is designed to equal the 50-110 but still fit an extended Marlin action.

I'm expecting Steves Gunz to deliver a 16" M92 in .44 Special, CC receiver, tuned, and receiver sight. Later on, I want some nice walnut with a crescent butt plate.

Echoing a post I made in another forum here, I'd like to see an 1886 trimmed down for the .30-30 class of cartridges. It would be between the 1892 and 1886 in size. A .35 Rem with a half magazine would be spiffy. The lightweight variant of 1881 Marlin would be grand as well.

This is an easy one! A Savage 99 in 250/3000.

Back in my active hunting days (as recent as about 10 years ago) I searched high and low for one. I even advertised and all I got were junk responses. ( Owners of Savage 99s- regardless of caliber never would give them up)Smiler
