I don´t know much about lever guns. Can a 300 WM BLR be rebarreled to 375 taylor? Thanks in advance for your opinions and help.

p.c. has and martin potts (pa bullets)

the actions are rated 60 or 65,000 psi

martin has pushed 525 gr@ 2300 fps but i would only do 2200 fps.

johnair...no mag mods except feeding from what i understand.

I e-mailed Z-Hat for a quote. Anybody else that does that work on levers? I kind of like the idea of a cartridge that will duplicate the performance of the .375 H&H in a lever and the magazine would make for quick reloads. I especially like that the .375 taylor uses same powders as the .308 Win because I can get those here.

there are plenty of gunsmiths that do big bore conversions on levers in the good old U.S.A,but they are mostly doing it on the Marlin 1895,the Browning '71& the win 1886,& the calibers being 50 Alaskan,50-110 win e.t.c.
this is the first that I have heard of the 375 taylor & converting the BLR into any of these cals!

The BLR is definately the best platform to work with as it can handle the pressure and use spitzer bullets in a box mag. While not traditional, or pretty according to some, it gets the job done very well.

I really want to go forward with the BLR 375/338 WIn Mag project but am having trouble finding someone to make the barrel. Does anyone know who has done this before or who can do it for me now?

Thanks.

Just got a reply e-mail from Mic McPherson. Aparently this is not such a simple conversion and aparently the BLR does not hold much appeal to the leversmiths. Oh well.... On to something else I guess.

Johnair, I talked to McPherson once too, and I would suggest you really need to talk to Fred Zeglin at z-hat.com before you abandon your project. I did a ton of research on doing a BLR in .416 Taylor last year and found z-hat to be the most knowledgable and experienced 'smith for the project. It's entirely do-able. In the end I went with another bolt gun because I really love a classic style bolt rifle, but I'm starting to think about reviving the idea.... as soon as my .358 STA is done, and I have added that Kimber Montana in .338 to my quiver... then maybe I can get back to the BLR conversion.

Friend, I just found this thread again. I'm glad to hear of your project going forward. Let us know when it is done and how it works. I also found Fred to be much more helpful than the other lever smiths I talked with. I just picked up a .458 Win mag, another bolt gun, but don't think life will be complete without a big lever gun, I'm still thinking 416 Taylor, some day.

I too would like to hear about the finished rifle.

Seems like a lot of work to go to. I had a BLR in .308 that I had rebored to .338 Federal. I don't remember how much it cost but it must have been in the range of $300 or so. It worked out great and it only required a rebore and rechamber. The magazine was no problem because Browning uses the same magazine for .243, 7mm-08, .308, and .358.

I would think you could do a similar BLR rebore to take a .300 WinMag to .338 WinMag and maybe even .358 Norma without modification of the magazine and without having to install new sights.
