I know I know... another stupid idea... I was thinking about a 35 rem conversion. I dont own one but thought if this could be done it would be cool. take a marlin XLR in 35 rem and make a 35 rem length 35-284 (35 Rem is 1.92" or maybe just do 2" cuzz I like rounf numbers ) use the 358 Norma Mag reamer to 1.92" Ish and use 284 Win brass for 40 thou wider case to get closer to 358 Win power at lower preasure. Is it doable? It would look like a fat 358 Win with a bit of a rebate here is a poor photoshop job of a 358 norma to 35 ??? This 2" wonder would be a good wildcat rechamber for any 358 win to get a tad more oomph since the length and the boltface would be the same. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. could we just use .350 Rem Mag ammo and turn the belt off? /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Winston Churchill

I'm no expert. What I understand is that the Marlin 336 action was designed around the pressure limits of the 30-30. Hodgdon's loads stop around 38k cup. The .350 RMag shows 53k+ cup. IMO, I think the pressure might be a problem in a 336 action. Regards, Robert ****************************** H4350! It stays crunchy in milk longer!

The reason for more capacity is better performance at lower preasure. The XLR is better suited for under 40,000 psi. Lever guns are a sub 40,000 psi platform. More capacity@ moderate pressure is what this cat is about. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

You are absolutely correct.....the cartridge would have to be handloaded to suit the action. here's a C/P from Hodgdon's website for .350 Mag: 200 GR. H4895 .358" 54.5 2625 37,800 CUP and for the .35 Remington: 200 GR. Varget .358" 39.5 2139 33,300 CUP Hodgdons show many loads for the .30-30 at 37,000 CUP The 500'/sec gain is significant.....I don't know what the gain might be to load the .35 Remington to 37,000 CUP but probably less than 100'/sec /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." This is why the new XLR would be the platform. It is stronger and if the mag tube can take the 30-30 rim I don't see why it can't take the .500" casehead of the 284 parent case. The 350 rem mag is too long except for pistol bullets. The only mods to the gun I see is a rechamber since length and rim size are about the same. Use an avaliable reamer and order custom dies and u r almost there to get 358 Win power on a traditional levergun. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. The Marlin barrel thread is kind of small for high pressure regardless of how strong the action is. Using a fat case is not such a good idea.
