I suppose I should point out the obvious: why?

Why would anybody use these bullets in a 45-70? You spend ever so much of your hard earned money and you get so little in return.

The 45-70 kills just fine with the cheapest chunk of 400'ish grain bullet you can shoot accurately.

Premium bullets make sense for the high-velocity cartridges. Not the old, slow 45-70.

If you had asked about Rhino bullets in the 7mm, I would've been silent.

Considering the cost of an imported bullet, I doubt anyone here has used it since there's a slew of domestic bullet manufacturers that do a credidable job at it. Hell, there are a whole bunch of 45 cal bullets to use here, why not try them?

the good news is people in africa are getting the mesage and are now using the 45-70, check the marlin owners web page http://www.marlinowners.com and check the big bores forum. but as i am learning a gun nut never needs a valid or rational reason for anything he does.

I've shot them in .416 400 grain last June in Africa.Took a gemsbok,waterbuck and steinbuck with them.The recovered bullet from the gemsbok was nicely mushroomed.I would have to look for it if you want the weight it retained.Its all the P.H.'s in Africa I know hunt with.On the Rhino bullet web site under reviews I.E. van Wyk (Mhondoro)is the P.H.s that I hunted with last June.

What I was getting at was, most 45-70 shooters will probably shoot cast rather than jacketed in their rifles. In fact with all these guys making domestic bullets, I don't see any need to try the Rhino in a 45-70; I'd rather use a Northfork 350 gr instead.

yeah i dont think you can get any better than a north fork in an expanding bullet...

My name is Per Lidman and i am from Sweden.I gote a very big moose this weekend with the 360gr FN Rhinobullet.It took me two bullets to get him down.but the distans was far 150-170 yards.I have some nice picture of the moose but i dont know how to post it.

Lidman, just curious what rifle were you using?Are lever guns popular/available in sweden?

I am using a marlin 1895GS with a aimpoint.The rifle is note so usualy in Sweden i bougt mine 2000.I have shoot 5 mooses with it and are very
pleased with it.

My Marlin is a 1895 standard rifle that I added a decelarator pad, had the gunsmith mount a wild west forward scout scope on currently using a Burris 2 3/4 power scout scope. The iron sights were changed to williams peep / front firesight and the gunsmith smoothed up the action. Wish we had Moose here in the southwest.
