Woodleigh makes a 400 grain. I am hoping when Ruger puts the 450/400 on the shelves we'll see some heavier weight bullets in the .410 - .411". I thought we might when H&H introduced the 400 H&H, but haven't so far. Barnes used to have a 325, 350 and 400 X, to go along with their 300 grain X, but quit making those some time ago. Swift still makes a limited production run of 350 grain A-Frame from time to time. Mike Brady at North Fork did a limited run of 360 grain bullets some time ago, but I'm not sure if he has since or if he has any left over. Hawk makes several weights, including 350's and 400's, but they are pretty soft bullets. I'm sure there are some cast bullet mold makers that make molds for 400 grain bullets, but I would slug your bore to be sure exactly what diameter you need before ordering a mold. Sorry, this isn't much help. Mid and heavy weight bullet selection is pretty limited. What is there, though, is pretty good.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if I could rebarrel it to 50 Alaskan or 50/110? "That's not a knife..THIS is a KNIFE" !

I have no idea. I've often wondered about necking up the 405 Winchester case to 416 caliber to take advantage of all the great 416 bullets on the market. I have no idea if it would work very well in the '95 Winchester though. It should, but I don't know for sure.

I've used the Woodleigh 400gr bullets in my Ruger #1 but I think they load up too long for the 1895. You might contact JudgeG, I think he worked thru all the difficulties a couple of years ago. The 300gr Barnes is a kickass bullet for the .405 but I couldn't get the 350gr's to shoot worth a hoot. I had good luck with the 400gr X bullets but they were awfully long and probably wouldn't work thru your lever gun. I'd bet you could make up a .416/.405 but then you might have problems with the .416 bullet being too tough for the 400gr@2,000 fps to 300gr@2,300fps max velocity you'd get from the small brass. hth

Considering the rifle and the ballistics of the 95/405 it's just about the perfect cast bullet lever action. I use 350 grain cast bullets in mine at full velocity. The case is full of IMR 4064 or 4895 and gives the shooter a good thump. That is what I have always throught about the .405, too, but I am still waiting for my '95 to arrive from the US so that I can try it out. "White men with their ridiculous civilization lie far from me. No longer need I be a slave to money" (W.D.M Bell) www.cybersafaris.com.au
