Today it seems as if all of the posted photographs are deformed, squished on the horizontal axis, or elongated on the vertical axis. Is it just my computer?

I'm having the same issue. Seems to have begun a couple of days ago. If you refresh the page some images correct themselves but others are distorted. On other occasions there isn't a problem.

Did you guys load an update to the software recently?

Today I notice on some threads there is no distortion, on others there is. I have no idea of course as to why this is happening. No one else has seen this?

Nothing when using two different computers, one with XP and the other with Vista.
Maybe a screen display parameters problem?

I noticed the same thing. Some photos are distorted, others look just fine.

This happened about the same time as NitroExpress site getting hacked. Coincidence?

Since pictures are not hosted here but hosted somewhere else and linked, AR is not the source of the problem. Were those distorted pictures hosted on Nitro's site?

I'm seeing it on both a laptop and an iPad - two different operating systems and screen parameters.

There was an update...and one of the features is a limit to the maximum width allowed. I set it to 750 pixels which is the width of our columns so people who must post giant pictures without following the rules stop forcing the rest of the readers to side scroll.

I think what is happening is the resizing of older posts waits for a new post to hit the thread.

I'll continue to monitor and if it is really annoying I'll turn off that new feature.

I think I sized most of mine to 1024 pixels on the longest side. Do I now have to go back and resize everything? Funny thing is, they are squeezed into 700 something pixels on the horizontal, but super long on the vertical. Weird.

At present they appear to be resized on the horizontal axis only, with no resize (no resample) on the vertical axis.

I vote turn the feature off. Even Mark Youngs pictures in his signature line look like the Empire State Building. Please go back to the old settings.

Thank you

I find having to scroll and not being able to see the whole pic to be irratating.
It's not that hard to resize a photo before posting it.

That is exactly why the new feature was added by our forum software supplier.

The rule has been no pictures wider than the 750 pixel forum width. Now the software limits it.

As I wrote, we'll see how it plays out.

Having to scroll because of oversized pictures is really hard on a mobile device which more and more of our users are adopting.

People hate change, even when it is for the better.

Don,

It's not a matter of hating change it's a matter of throwing out the present baby with the bath water.

The way it is right now almost half the existing forum pictures look like a circus fun room picture.

Like I said look at Mark Young's signature alone.

Does the software offer an auto resizing option? Another forum I post to the pictures are automatically sized for the forum format no matter the size on the image hosting site.

no complaints here - although i did see a few signature pictures that were distored, they seem fine now.

don, are you sure about the 750-px limit? in the recipe section i posted some pix that were 800px wide, and they seem fine with no distortion at all - plus, they fit well within the borders for the forum posts (which i have always assumed to be 1280px).

I don't mind the resizing, but it only resizes on the horizontal axis. If it were to resize the horizontal axis and maintain the resampling (resizing the vertical axis at the same time without changing the proportions) nobody would even notice.

I use Google Chrome and the majority of the photos still show up with distortion of the vertical axis. I wish I knew more about how these different softwares interact. It seems strange that one web browser provides different images than another.

Ok just called my wife at home. She opened our hunt report on Zambia on our MAC at home and I opened it at the same time here on my work PC. The pictures look correct here on the work PC and are distorted on the home MAC.

Anyone notice this? Don, any suggestions?

I'm viewing things on an iridium sat phone....and they all look good on my sony vaio...that is until I get disconnected.

I only have about 5 min a day on the web, so I'll see how this plays out, I might change it back. BUT remember, the rules in all the picture guides on this site say keep the pictures small. It's not our fault our posters didn't size them right. We have a lot of dialup and foreign users. Now that I am in a remote location, I see the issue first hand.

Thanks for taking the time to look into it. I didn't know about image size limits. I'll pay better attention in the future.

Right now any image on the website is about worthless at home on the MAC.

I logged out and logged back in and everything is fine at the moment.
