Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

JBrownI keep wondering what they are seeing at this moment. Probably high atop a mountain glassing a band of sheep across the valley and discussing the best route to take to get within range.
I can't wait for their report.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

D. NelsonGot off the phone with Mrs. Frostbit. The first ram is down!!! And, on the first hunting day. Of course to anyone who knows Jim, they also know his nickname,...."Bwana F..g Lucky". He lived up to that. Took his ram about 8:00 PM the first hunting day. After a grueling stalk (can you call it a stalk when you slither over rocks on your belly) in which the rams they had spotted actually worked their way toward Jim and company, Frostbit's shot was about 100 yds.
Can't wait for a first had accountant. But one down and 2 to go!!
Best regards, D. Nelson

Weather did not cooperate once we packed my Sheep back to base camp. The river was not crossable. Lucky we didn't get stuck on the other side.

Helped me forget Africa for a little while, that's for sure. Headed out next week to help Joyce (Bait Babe) find a Caribou or Moose. Still got some freezer space.

We were lucky by 1/2 a day or we would still be stuck on the wrong side of the river.
